Floyd-Responses 2
John Chandler
John, as always, your writings and presentations are very detailed and thorough. I truly
enjoyed reading your presentation and it reaffirmed my perception of your love for students and
the content you teach! Your statement, “Leadership is a journey, not a destination” is so very
true and the mantra that I believe you stood behind from day one of our internship. Of the five
big ideas you quoted, I agree completely with the fact that you must “look at the situation
through the instructional leader’s lens…not your teacher’s lens.”
Your experiences in the GLISI roles span the gamut: as I read over your experiences, I
could only ask myself, “When does John have time to teach?” I was curious to know what a
“Mayor of Morale” really does – but I am sure it is similar to what you have added to our cohort
on a regular basis (intelligent humor and uplifting words).
I have truly enjoyed our time as cohort members and I look forward to collaborating with
you as we both pursue our “journeys in leadership.”
Pete Settelmayer
Pete, I really like how your presentation was set up. For each of the eight GLISI roles, you
explained your belief about the role and afterwards shared your experiences in that role. I totally
agree with your belief about data analysis: “data should be used by the teachers to individualize
education.” I also felt that the statement – “school leaders should not fall on the data ‘sword’ as
a substitute for quality instruction” – is a very powerful statement. Of all your beliefs, I could
not agree more with the one you made under performance leader that stated, “Climates should

not only be professional, but also establish a feeling of camaraderie and support.” That
statement embodies your character. I have had the opportunity of knowing you since our UTL
cohort and I can truly say that you have always been professional, supportive and a team player.
It has been a pleasure working with you and I also look forward to collaborating with you –
especially since you are already in a position of leadership!
Tangie Byrd
Tangie, your presentation is very clear and concise. I really like how you stated the GLISI roles
and below them, gave your experiences in each role – which from my observation demonstrates
a wealth of leadership experiences. The portion of your presentation that I really connected with
was your “lessons learned.” Your statements were very much in agreement with what I believe
about leaders.
“Leaders should feel confident and good about majority of the decisions they make daily;
Leaders should encourage and promote educational leadership opportunities to teachers;
Leaders should always know what is going on in their building; and Leaders need to be
open to change.”
It has been a pleasure learning and working with you during our internship. You have never
failed to have a kind word, nor have you ever hesitated to share your knowledge and experiences
with me. This cohort has been one of my best experiences at GSU and I look forward to future
collaborations.
