Seriously...Holiday Travel Time...Again?
Original Article By: Kalei Beamon
I cannot believe it’s Monday night!
I can’t believe it’s the end of November.
I can’t even believe 2013 is staring us right in the face!
It’s holiday travel time.
I have to catch a flight in the morning.
The butt crack of dawn morning.
May even be the first flight out.
That is one strange thing about living in Los Angeles. There’s no change of season, so you never
really know what time of the year it is.
I blame the non-stop seasonal sun for why I paid a fortune for my airline ticket.
$913 from LA to Michigan.
It was either pony up the money, or no turkey for me.
And the turkey really is that good.
I bought my ticket last week...less than 7 days before the day
of travel...during holiday travel time.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
Not because it was so expensive.
But because I got stuck in a MIDDLE SEAT!
Imagine my horror when I saw the middle seats were the only options left.
As for the expense...I don’t mind so much.
You see, I have this awesome online business that pays 100% Commissions!
(Click here if you want to put a little extra cash in your pocket too.)
But I still maintain that it is the weather’s fault.
Holiday Travel Time
Don’t get me wrong...I’m all for 80 degrees and sunny in November.
But when it’s cold, snowing and gray outside, it’s much easier for a midwest girl like me to know
when we are approaching holiday travel time.
SO...anyway I’m trying to decide if I should just stay up all night and sleep on the plane.
My flight is at six...so I probably need to leave here around 3:30.
Last year, I cut is super close and almost missed my flight.
I left my place around 4am. It takes about a half hour to get to LAX... in no traffic.
Not much traffic at that time of day, so I was in the clear.
What I didn’t count on was the shuttle buses that take you from the parking to the terminal to be
running so late.
The signs say a bus comes every 7 minutes.
Except during holiday travel time.
Nope, during holiday travel time expect the buses to come every 20 minutes.
And to be packed!
Of course...I needed to get to terminal 7. The absolute last terminal.
So the bus stopped at every terminal, to let tons of people off...who all traveled like they didn’t
have any place to go.
Ultra slow movers...and lengthy discussions about which bag was theirs and who was gonna take
it from the rack.
By the time I got to my terminal it was 5:00 am. Still had to check in, clear security and board.
The terminal was under construction.
So I had to take a detour...bags and all through the airport.
Now, there’s no time to check my bag.
It wouldn’t make the flight.
So I go straight to security.
And of course...TSA has to rifle through my bag and dispose of half of my toiletries that were
over 3 oz.
(Just doing their job I guess.)
At 5:30 am I was feeling a little panicky.
There would be hell to pay if I missed this flight because I didn’t consider the chaos that occurs
during holiday travel time.
Be Bold. Come Along.
