Welcome to AYFA Cheer 2012
You can register online starting February 15, 2012 at www.alpharettayouthfootball.com. Our cheer
season runs from August to November.
We are coming off of a wonderful 2011 cheer season!
We were able to field a cheer squad for 2nd – 5th grades. All squads had a least nine girls which allowed
for plenty of stunting, formation changes and choreography. We were able to cheer for each football
team within each grade group. Sideline cheerleaders were able to showcase their talents during the
halftime portion of every football game.
Our competition squad had an AMAZING 2011!! We competed in the 2011 Halloween Jam with a 2nd
place finish followed by a 1st place finish at the 2011 Circus Jam which also gave us the distinction as
Georgia State Recreational Minor 1 Champions!! We have brought home first place trophies in 2009,
2010 and 2011!!
We are pleased to offer a top tier cheer program to the youth of Alpharetta and we hope you can join us
We offer sideline cheer for ages 4-13 and competition cheer for ages 7-13. 4 & 5 year olds will be Jr.
Eagle Cheerleaders. We offer professional cheer instruction to all cheerleaders during the AYFA Cheer
Camp held in early August. All participants will receive professional instruction on stunts, jumps, motion
technique and tumbling.
Sideline cheerleaders are placed on teams according to the grade they will enter when school starts in
the fall. This is done so that cheerleaders can cheer with like minded peers, form bonds and make
lifelong friends. Exceptions will be made for siblings close in age. Sideline cheerleaders will practice
twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm until 7:30pm at Wills Park. Games are held on
Saturdays at North Park. Our first practice will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Wills Park at
Competition cheer is made up of one squad ages 7-13 that will compete in two competitions during the
season, one in October and another in November. Competition cheer practices every Monday from
6pm until 8pm at the Alpharetta Community Center. Girls interested in competition cheer must try
out to be on this squad. There is an extra fee in addition to the city fees that must be paid if your
daughter becomes a member of the competition squad. The 2012 Competition Squad fee will be
$130.00. This fee covers gym rental at the community center, registration fees associated with entering
competitions, professional choreography and music. Our competition routine is choreographed by a
professional cheer coach who will then be fined tuned with the help of our AYFA competition cheer
coach, Shawn Hampton. All participants on the competition squad will receive professional instruction
on stunts, jumps, tumbling and motion technique.
Being a member of the competition squad requires a great deal of commitment. Competition practices
are mandatory and can only be missed due to illness or injury. Extra practices may be called during the
week of a competition to fine tune areas of the routine. You are required to attend those practices as
well. When practices are missed, we must spend time to go back and re-teach parts of the routine that
were previously taught. This in turn slows down the progress of learning the routine as the competition
Competitions are generally held on Sunday afternoons which is also a school night. Please plan to spend
between five and six hours at a competition. That time frame includes check-in, rehearsal,
performance, watching other cheer participants and the award ceremony. Please consider all of the
above information before allowing your daughter to try out for the competition squad. If your daughter
is placed on the squad, she will be held to the above commitments.
Cheerleaders have the option of cheering sideline only, sideline and competition or just participate on
the competition squad. If you choose to only participate with the competition squad, there are no
reductions in fees. All city fees must be paid along with the competition fee.
We understand that cheerleading is a very expensive sport. We have done our best to keep prices as
low as possible. The following items are required for all cheerleaders (sideline and competition) in
addition to the city fees and competition fees if you are placed on the competition squad:
1. Cheerleader Uniform (Shell & Skirt): $118 Ages 6-13
2. Jr. Eagle Cheerleader Uniforms: $35 Ages 4 & 5
3. Turtleneck: $20.00
4. Briefs : $10.00
5. Shoes: $28.00
6. Hair Bow: $8.00
1. Jackets embroidered with name: $38.00
2. Cheer Bags: $10.00
Socks, poms and spirit wear are included in the registration fees.
I am in the process of securing the dates for cheer camp. Tentative dates are July 30 – August 3rd at the
Alpharetta Community Center. Cheer Camp is included in the registration fees.
There will be two uniform fittings held during the summer for cheerleaders and Jr. Eagle Cheerleaders to
purchase uniforms. Uniform fittings will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9am until 12 Noon
and Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 6pm until 8pm in the North Park Field 1 Press Box. These are the
only dates available for uniform fittings. All items must be paid for in advance. If you desire to purchase
any of the optional items, they must be ordered at one of the uniform fittings. I will not be placing any
orders after the final fitting on June 6th. I recommend that girls wear a swimsuit under their clothes to
try on items. The above dates will be posted on our website at www.alpharettayouthfootball.com.
Uniform Pick Up
Once all items are back from the manufactures I will schedule a uniform pick up day. It is imperative
that you pick up your items on the day scheduled or send someone in your place. I will not be able to
hand out items during practice times as I am a volunteer cheer coach as well. The uniform pick up date
will be sent in an email blast as well as posted on www.alpharettayouthfootball.com.
We will also hold a uniform consignment. If you have any gently used uniforms that you would like to
place on consignment, you will need to attach a self-addressed stamped envelope to each piece along
with the price you would like to sell each piece for. We will only accept shells, skirts and midriffs.
Consignment drop off will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 9am until 12 Noon at the North Park
Field 1 Press Box.
NEW to the 2012 Cheer Season!
We will be participating in the Old Soldier’s Day Parade on Saturday, August 4, 2012. This is a great way
to support the community and put the spotlight on the AYFA organization.
AYFA Cheer Extravaganza! This event will be billed as an exhibition not a competition. The purpose of
the event is to showcase all AYFA squads. This event will be held in November during the first round of
the football play offs. The date and time will be announced well in advance.
Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative: This year we will support Breast Cancer Month in October by using
pink poms and wearing pink hair bows. To support this initiative we have added a $25 Kitty Fee to
registration to cover those items.
I look forward to another award winning cheer season at AYFA!!!
