Sockeye Homes Builds 2012 Northwest Idea House of the Year, Model of Green
Efficiency

A home/office space designed by Kent, Washington-based, Sockeye Homes was
named the 2012 Northwest Idea House of the Year. The home, a Northwest
contemporary with a Japanese influence, has a host of green features making it
both energy efficient and environmentally friendly, while retaining a modern,
elegant design.

Outside, a unique water element also serves a practical function of working as a
cistern to collect rainwater and holding gray water from the Japanese spa, which
is ultimately reused to irrigate the property. Indoors, beams made from a
composite of recycled wood saves on timber cutting while offering greater
insulation and energy efficiency. The environmentally friendly outdoor and indoor
spaces then come together as the home’s twenty-three-foot-long accordion style
door opens into a mixed space perfect for entertaining.

Sockeye Homes provides environmentally friendly custom home design and
construction to its clients. The Northwest Idea Home of the Year is available for
tour.
