Title: Retail Category Manager
Company: Berry Plastics
Reports To: VP of Marketing
Location: Lawrence, KS or Greater Kansas City or Topeka, KS Area
F.L.S.A. Status: Exempt


Primary Function:

This position addresses complex business opportunities by leveraging multiple data sources, tools,
analytics, and a deep understanding of the retail environment. The successful candidate will bring well-
honed analytic skills, category management expertise, as well as an understanding of syndicated and
custom database analytics, consumer panels, and custom marketing research.

This interdisciplinary role will liaise with consumer marketing, sales, operations, and senior management.
The primary tasks include design, management, interpretation and reporting on actionable data-driven
projects from inception to presentation to internal and, occasionally external stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

       Utilize syndicated and/or retailer specific data to uncover key category insights as well as thought
        leadership opportunities which impact Berry retail businesses and brands (focus on trash bags)
             o Product, Placement, Promotion and Pricing
       Strong analytical capability; ability to translate data into actionable marketplace insights
       Able to conceptualize and solve unstructured or loosely defined problems
       Identify micro & macro consumer/end user trends to feed opportunities for innovative and product
        or program design and development
       Supply analytic support for monthly reporting, business development analysis, marketing program
        development and sales planning
       Provide support to develop opportunities, sell solutions, and measure results
       Develop a strong working relationship with the entire consumer products organization
       Penetrate and establish relationships across multiple touch points of key retail partner’s value
        chain (Marketing, Category Management, Supply Chain, and Retail Operations).
       Provide qualitative customer and consumer information that is utilized for annual line review
        planning process

Additional Requirements:

       Working knowledge of advanced analytical techniques and approaches related to consumer
        segmentation, targeting, and data mining
       Strong skills in either syndicated data analysis (IRI, NIELSEN,SPECTRA)
       Superior organizational, prioritization, & project management skills
       Work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
       Self-motivated and high energy individual with a strong drive for results and highly motivated to
        learn and drive continuous improvement
       Must be very computer proficient, and near expert in utilizing Microsoft Office software (Excel,
        PowerPoint, and Word
       Ability to travel 15-20% of the time
       Previous experience in communicating complex and detailed information to multiple audiences
        with differing knowledge levels
Education:
    Undergraduate degree required; ideal candidate will have graduate degree in business or related
       field

Experience:
    Three to five years experience in a CPG related experience
