ASANSOL: A chit fund operator's office was robbed in broad daylight this afternoon in Kulti area of Asansol. Masked robbers made away with cash of about Rs 1.65 lakh. Last August, on yet another Saturday afternoon, a masked five-men-gang had looted cash worth Rs 5.20 lakh from the office of yet another chit fund operator in Rupnarayanpur in Asansol. The five-men-gang walked into the branch office of Rose Valley Finance, a chit fund operator, in Neamatpur area at around 4.45 p.m. They were armed and snatched the locker’s key at gunpoint from the branch manager, Mr Amit Singh. Mr Singh told police that they took away whatever cash was in the locker, the entire day's collection. The Neamatpur Police Outpost under the Kulti Police Station is barely half a km from the robbed office, located just beside the old GT Road stretch passing through the town. The ADCP (West), Asansol Durgapur Police, Mr Subrata Ganguly told reporters that the modus-operandi of the robber’s gang is being examined and that the branch manager will further be questioned. On 11 August, another gang had robbed Rs 5.20 lakh in cash from the branch office of a chit fund company, Ramel India Finance. The Neamatpur and Rupnarayanpur market areas have recorded eight cases of robberies in the past three months.
