For days...I would go down to the train station and hand out flyers to promote a weight loss
challenge I was organizing for my mlm company.

I printed up 800 flyers, 100 pull tabs and set up a meet up group.

I just knew there were going to be tons of people lined up for the chance to lose pounds and win
cash.

I thought the train station would be a great place to hand out
flyers
I’d drive down to the train station and camp out there during rush hours.  I figured it was a
heavily trafficked area and a large demographic...so surely there would be tons (no pun intended)
of people eager for the chance to participate.

It was pretty hot.

July in Los Angeles.

I remember being totally parched.

It’s kind of hard to hang on to water and hand out flyers, so I figured I would just suck it up and
be thirsty.

So, I’d stand there...smiling...and eagerly walking up to people and asking ‘if you know of
anyone who might be interested, can you pass this along.”

You see, you can’t openly ask people if they want to do a weight loss challenge.

A lot of people get offended at that.

I admit...it is a little awkward.

Especially when approaching someone who really needed to drop a few pounds.

It’s like the elephant in the room...you want to be sensitive...BUT...

anyway...

I couldn’t help but notice that those who were...shall we say the most qualified to
participate...were the first to throw the flyers in the trash.
GO Figure!

Anyway, I had been heavily promoting the challenge for a week in advance.  Pounding the
pavement...I’d hand out flyers and post signs in every store and coffee shop that had a billboard.

I have to say... throughout the entire process I couldn’t help but wonder “does this really work?”

Hand Out Flyers
I mean, it really seemed like an unfocused strategy to me.

But my fellow colleagues liked to hand out flyers and promoted that way...and they seemed to be
successful.

All I knew was that this really sucked.

I did not like handing out flyers...AT ALL.

But they say that the one thing you don’t want to do is the one thing you should be doing...so I
figured I was on the right track.

But I didn’t like it.

The day of the challenge came and I was excited.

I was expecting about 30 people so show up.

Even though no one RSVP’d.

No worries...people don’t usually RSVP...I rationalized.

So there I was...with my other colleagues setting up the room and preparing to welcome our
guests.

7:00--Check in time and there is no one there!

at about 7:10 one woman walks in the door.

She’s new to the neighborhood and just heard about the challenge.

We sat.

We waited.

We looked at each other.

At 7:30...we realized the challenge was a bust.

All of that work.
All of those hours standing in the hot California sun.

Thirsty.

And only one person showed up!

And she didn’t even hear about the challenge from the flyers.

That’s it.

I was steaming!

I vowed to never market that way again.

There had to be a better way.

And there was.

Targeted online marketing.

I plugged into the Ten Ten Formula and got the most amazing crash course into marketing that I
could have ever had hoped for.

It doesn’t matter what business your in, you have to know how to market.

And the Ten Ten Formula and Empower Network took me from a girl standing on a street corner
randomly passing out flyers ....

....to an Internet marketing success.

And never hand out flyers again.

Be Bold. Come Along.
