Khandan-E-Asad
VOL IV June 2002 ISSUE I
Assalamu-Alaikum
Allamdhulillah this issue of the newsletter completes 3 years of Khandan-e-Asad. We
would like to thank all those have been contributing to the success of the newsletter.
Without all your suggestions and articles, the goal of Khandan-e-Asad would not be
reached. As you all know the intention of this newsletter is to provide a common platform
for our family where all of us can share their facts, stories and views for the benefit of
each other. We hope that this will also help to further unite and assist everyone in
keeping in touch.
Inshallah with all your duas as well as continued contribution you all can look forward to
many more years of the newsletter to continue. We thank all that have contributed to this
particular edition, which was dedicated to the children of our cousins. Unfortunately, not
all of you have provided us with the information we had requested. Please make the
effort to provide it to be printed in the next edition.
Thank You All
- Khandan-e-Asad
Assalamualikum From: Hashmi family
Firstly we'd like you all to know that mummy is doing well allhamdulillah. But from all
of us we'd like to thank you guys for all your Duas, moral support, and constant show of
care. But we would particularly like to thank Suraiyya baji, zehra baji, Fameena bhabi
and their husbands (ooopss Saif bhai I think we made you an outsider and Fameena
bhabi...OURS!!!) for having them come to Chicago, and help take care of their "maim
khala". She appreciated it so much, as we did also.
Although you came with the intention of taking care of mom, instead you guys helped out
the rest of the family also. Such as all the cooking: Suraiya baji's cooking...
mmmmmmmm... and Zehra baji... your khorma... HAHAHAHAHAHA... along with the
many other things you made for our future use and froze it. And lets see, oh Zehra baji
special thanks for keeping me awake all night every time I tried to go to sleep...
hahahaha... just kidding. Although it was a difficult time, you guys made it easy. Don't
worry Fameena bhabi, I’m sure when you come also, it will be very helpful. We're
looking forward to it...hahaha...
Thanks again for helping us out in our difficult time. Your care and consideration was
more than enough, but you guys did more than just that. We would also like to thank
their moms and dads for calling. You helped us out a lot, in all sorts of ways: physically,
morally, and emotionally. THANKKKKKSSSSSSS!!!!
The Hashmi family is really grateful to u. You guys are all doing so much for mom,
making us lose OUR sawab!!!!!
Love always
Butul, Uzair, & Zubair

From: Rukhsana Shibli
Assalam alaikum all; Hello, hope you all are doing fine.
In November 2001, WE moved back to Chicago. I am glad to be back near family and
friends. In December, Zehra, Suraiyya with families and Javed visited with us. We
enjoyed their visit very much. Mashallah, the kids were delightful and it was wonderful
to see the cousins. Though it was a short visit, it was good to catch up on all the news and
see my cousins.
Also, Rana and family came up from Georgia for a visit, and Asma and family were also
in town from Michigan. The absence of Durdana and family, Abba, and Saif and family
was greatly missed.
Inshallah, we should/will plan another family gathering soon.
Respectfully,
Rukhsana
Salaam all From: Saifuddin Khan
Hope inshallah everyone is fine at their respective places. Alhamdulillah we are also fine
and enjoying summer of Canada. This year we already had 4 smog alerts till now and it is
believed that we might have many more in the coming days. Well, to me also the word
“smog alert” was new but now I know that it is a mix of “smoke and fog”. That means
the environment will be polluted and people are advised to take special care for heat and
have lots of fluids. Hunh… seems they have never visited lad bazaar and abids hahha.
Mashallah Zubia is already a year now. She is very cute, sensitive and friendly. May
Allah give her the best of both the worlds and raise her as a good muslim. We, (Dulhan
Zubia, and myself) went to Chicago for first time together. Alhamdulillah the trip was
very fine and we enjoyed a lot. We basically stayed with Maim Khala and give visits to
Baji Khala/ family and our other relatives.
Maim Khala is mashallah doing good now although she need to gain more strength and I
am sure inshallah she will get it soon. This was the first time I was in Chicago when
Zubair was not there… Zubair I missed our trip to Pita Inn, that Arabic restaurant .
Butul and Uzair are mashallah doing fine. Uzair is not only doing his “hifz course” but
also has joined the regular school. May Allah give him success in both lives. He also had
good time with us, I hope, except a few occasions .
We also went to Baji Khala’s house, Imad came to pick us up from Maim Khala’s house.
He has also mashallah grow up a lot (looks a lot like Zubair). At Baji khalas house we
also met Munne mamu and also Zaheer chacha (he is the son of Hasan dada- ask your
parents for more details ).
As we could not see any of Baji Khalas girls/families that day, we went again later and
this time we went to aapi’s (Rukhsana) house where we had a small gathering. It was nice
seeing aapi, Durdana and Asra with kids (couldn’t see any of the husbands- coz of work).
Rana n family being in India and Asma not in town, we missed them. Inshallah later
I also met one of my best friend there, Talat, after almost 4 years….. hunh.. time flies…
Well, over all in Chicago, we had a great time, hope they also had fun. Never mind
Amjad khalu, barbecue next time Inshallah. O ya one more thing, Uzair has surprises us
by doing one unbelievable thing. You know what, he passed himself thru the plastic
hanger, you know the one we hang clothes.. O God. this boy is so thin…. Unlike his
brother . The overall trip was very pleaeant and joyous and we hope that inshalalh we
shall have great time again whenever we visit. THANK YOU GUYS !!!!!!
Arright, I know that these details are “more than enough” for now.. so take care.. rest
later with pix OK. Do remember us in your prayers.
With lots of LUV and BEST WISEHS
Saif
From: Viquar Sharif
Assalam Alaikum:
My views and opinions for khandan e Asad edition.
I am really proud to see the contributions everyone is planning to put in, I’m sure if we
were to insert graphics it would make a big difference.
Personally I feel that this issue should be dedicated to Khadijah. We would like her
family members to know that we are all with her/them at this moment of time. She will
be undergoing Surgery, all our Duas go out to her and we sincerely hope that her family
will have peace of mind finally, as she recovers inshallah.
From time to time I have stressed on connectivity and maintaining a link with all our
relations, by doing this we will be doing what is required by all of us. A duty, which one
must take seriously, as this will create a close bond with next generation family members.
Now coming back to my marriage, Sooner or later I will be a married man, what lies
ahead of me, I have no idea, but I do know that I will have to face a lot of challenges and
will be looking forward to all. However we cannot compare married couples with other
married couples, we should always remember that it’s a case to case basis. Our beloved
Grandmother had initiated the search for the right girl and finally I got connected, It
would have been wonderful for her to see the girl I am going to get married to.
I hear by plan to follow the sayings of our prophet Mohammed (PBUH)- when he said to
“treat your wife with kindness and love’. Treat her equally and with respect…. I strongly
believe that love should be showered upon your partner and it should be done the right
way.
Now coming back to the people who are too busy to communicate with us thru the
simplest way i.e. thru email. Zubair and Saif as we know they are founders of this
edition. Thru their encouragement we are all taking this seriously and they continuously
forward us emails and reminders that the next issue is due. Both of them have busy lives.
Yet they take time to find out time for what is required from them in order to contribute
to what they have started.
I seriously think people are not bothered any more or they have taken email for granted,
earlier people did make efforts to write hand written letters but now they have to take
time out for writing emails as well……
This is a picture I want to share with you people. Its a memory only now but in our hearts
for ever…
A reminder,
To all of those who are extremely busy with their lives: Not to forget their immediate
family members and people related to you. Life is short and we all have a lot to do,
during this time we should devote our time to our parents who served us most of their
entire lives. Don’t let silly arguments affects your lives and let by gone be by gones. Let
not small things affect you and eventually everything will go all right.
Salam alikum
Mohammed Viqar Sharif.

Assalam alaikum From: Mrs. Atiya Habeeb
I have thought that I will inshallah write somet hing for every edition of this New Letter.
But after Sarvatjaan’s shaadi every thing seems like got deserted, cannot develop interest
in any thing. It seems that there is something missing in me… may be my JAAN.
Although Urooj and Nishat also got married… but may be because of Sarvat at home, we
never felt the absence of a daughter… well life goes on…..
Now, my husband and the continuous reminders of the newsletter made me write
something… but I don’t know what in particular I have to write.
Firstly you all might have known about Maim’s health by now. Alhamdulillah by the
Grace of Allah she is OK. She is among one of those who worries about the entire family
and helps many of our relatives. I am sure that because of all her good deed, mashallah
she is fine now. of hers We all wish and pray that May Allah give her happy, healthy and
prosperous long life, ameen. Zubair is also mashallah doctor, I am sure he will do the best
to keep her Mummy and happy and healthy. Even mashallah Butul and Uzair are grown
ups and I am sure they are also doing their best to keep the family healthy and happy.
Lots of mubarak to Amjad miyan also on healthy recovery of his wife.
I would like to also share with you a good news. … Mashallah my eldest grand daughter
Sara, Urooj’s daughter, is now in matric, 10th. Asrar, next to Sara is in 8th and Yusra,
Urooj’s youngest child is in 6th. Mohsin, Nishat’s eldest son is in 9th, Sana has just
passed her 7th in first division and is in 8th now, Farha is in 7th, Hina is in 4th and the
youngest Imran is in 2nd class.
Saif’s daughter, Zubia (to whom we have not seen yet and hoping to see son inshallah)
will be of ONE year, meri jaan mashallah. Wahaj and Nema, Wahab’s kids are mashallah
very cute and just finished their first year of nursery school. Nema is very talkative
mashallah while Wahaj is “bhola”. We always say to them , and also practice, not to keep
the taps open or else it will be a wastage of water. So one day when it was raining a lot,
Nema told me “Amanna dekhiye Allah miyan kitna pani waste karrey, Nul band karo
boliye, kab band karte ki” (amanna look Allah miyan is wasting how much water, tell to
close the tap, don’t know when will HE close it) . Anyways, things like this and many
more keeps us lot busy and much of our time spends with them.
About Sarvat, mashallah Zaheer and herself has done Haj and also both last Eids in
Mecca. Ghazi mashallah is in 9th. Do dua ofr him also that May Allah make him sincere
and obedient and that he also makes good name of our family inshallah.
OK this is all for now. My adaab salaam and Love to all My brothers and sister their kids
and families. Inshalalh this July, we will have lots of family gatherings, hope we all will
enjoy.
Khudahafiz - Your lovingly
Atiya Habeeb
Salam everyone!!!!!!!! From: Zubair Hashmi
How is everyone doing, hope everyone’s health and family is doing ok. Allhamdulillah
we here are all fine. As most of you know, mummy was a bit sick, but now thanks to your
dua’s and help, she is much better. It is ironic how mother’s day is tomorrow as well. I do
not know if that is just an American tradition or worldwide. But in either case, I guess it’s
a day to reflect back on what your mother has done for you, and what she means to you.
Although we should be doing this everyday, but sometimes of our busy schedule, we, or
at least I tend to forget. With mummy being sick for the past couple weeks, we were
really hit hard and felt how much she does for us. We felt crippled without her during her
hospitalization days. I am just glad to have her back. Mother’s day or not – WE LOVE
YOU MOM!!!!!! You are one lady that can take care of all of us by yourself, and when
you get sick, all of us together are lost without you. You mean more to us than
anything!!!!!!!
Moving along, since there is no real topic because any newsletter can be written on any
topic anyhow. And since I do not have any kids (yet ), I can not chat away about them.
So let me just tell you all how I have been. Most of you know, in the last year I have
moved around the US many times: Chicago – Miami – New York, Boston.
All cities have been great. I was in New York when the lights were turned on for the first
time in place of the two world towers. It was amazing, and beautiful. You could see the
light from far away. They were bright blue in color, and touched the sky. I was on a boat
,tour from New Jersey at the time. So we were on the river, which passes right by the
disaster site.
Towers of light
Light bases
Its really hard to explain the silence of the everyone around when the lights came on, and
then there was a huge cheer from the city that we could hear all the way out into the
water. It was quite an experience. Unfortunately the lights are off now, and I am not sure
what they are exactly deciding on what to make or do with the tragedy site.
Well soon enough next month, I should be moving again, not exactly sure where though.
I am entering my last year now before I receive my MD degree. I have some important
exams coming up this year, and then interviews for positions. I am trying to land a
position in surgery, inshallah. Will not know till about next March (2003). Then
graduation, inshallah, by May/June 2003.
And now for all of you that have send me numerous emails or phone calls about getting
married….. ha hah haha ha ha hah a. Well to answer it quickly, I am WAITING for the
line to move along!!!!!! When certain two people, whose will remain anonymous (JAVID
and VICKY) decide to finally end their floating marriage dates, and fix them, AND have
said “qabul hai” 3 times (I guess and have received the same “qabul hai” from their
respective spouses ), th ,
Ok then, until next time, everyone take care!!!!
Khudafiz,
Love,
- Zubair A. Hashmi

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to
sleep ... you are richer than 75% of this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace ...
you are among the top 8% of the > world's wealthy.
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are more blessed than
the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the
agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation...you are ahead of 500 million people in the
world.
If you can pray in mosque without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death ... you are
more blessed than three billion people in the world.
If your parents are still alive and still married ... you are very rare.
If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful... you are
blessed because the majority can, but most do not.
If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was
thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in
the world that cannot read at all.
Have a good day, count your blessings to thank ALLAH, and remind others how blessed
we all are. Alhumdulillah.
With Love
Rana
