PLAYER, ASSISTANT, HEAD COACH
Tyrone Corbin was named head coach of the Utah Jazz on February 10, 2011, after having served
as an assistant with the team since the 2004-05 season. Corbin is the seventh head coach in Jazz
history and just the fourth head coach since the franchise’s relocation to Utah in 1979. Prior to the
2010-11 season, Corbin ranked second in voting for the NBA’s top assistant coach as selected by
league general managers (behind only former Jazz assistant Phil Johnson).

With a basketball career spanning 30 years, Corbin has both played and coached under some of
basketball’s best. In addition to seven seasons working as an assistant under Jerry Sloan and
another three seasons playing for him, Corbin also played for Rick Adelman, Cotton Fitzsimmons,
Pat Riley and Lenny Wilkens over 16 seasons as a player. In fact, Corbin is tied for the second-most
NBA playing experience among all current NBA head coaches, trailing only Golden State’s Mark
Jackson (17 seasons) by one season.

Corbin came to the Jazz after spending the 2003-04 campaign as the manager of player
development for the New York Knicks. Prior to his stint with the Knicks, he spent two seasons as a
player mentor for the North Charleston Lowgators of the NBA Development League.

A versatile small forward, Corbin played for nine teams during his NBA career (1985-01), including the Jazz. The Jazz acquired Corbin
from Minnesota on December 16, 1991 in exchange for Thurl Bailey and a 1992 second-round pick. During his three seasons with the
Jazz from 1991-94, he averaged 9.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in 233 games. Corbin appeared in a total of 1,050 games over the
course of his career that included stints with San Antonio, Cleveland, Phoenix, Minnesota, Utah, Atlanta, Sacramento, Miami and
Toronto.

Originally drafted by San Antonio in the second round (35th pick overall) of the 1985 NBA Draft, Corbin averaged 9.3 points and 4.8
rebounds while connecting on .457 percent of his shots in 26.2 minutes per game for his career. He also appeared in 82 playoff
games, including 37 with the Jazz, averaging 8.4 points and 5.0 rebounds. He scored 11.3 points in 16 games with Utah in 1991-92
and 11.8 points in five games with the Jazz in 1992-93.

Corbin averaged 11.5 points in four years at DePaul University, including 15.8 points in his senior season. He played in 120 games for
the Blue Demons, increasing his scoring average and field goal and free throw percentage in each of his four seasons. He finished
seventh on DePaul’s career scoring list and was a two-time honorable mention AP All-American selection, as well as an All-NIT choice in
1983, and was invited to the 1984 Olympic Trials. He also holds the distinction of being team captain for legendary coach Ray Meyer’s
final team at DePaul in 1984-85.

Corbin’s son, Tyrell, currently plays basketball for Salt Lake Community College.
