Rafe Martin is the author of over 20 books that have been translated into multiple languages. Speaking as both an author and a storyteller, Rafe has appeared in thousands of schools, libraries, festivals, and conferences in nearly every state-including Alaska and Hawaii-and as far away as Japan. He has given keynotes and workshops at library and reading conferences including, The American Library Association, and the New York Library Association. Rafe Martin's writing has appeared in Parabola: The Magazine of Myth and Tradition; Blind Donkey; The Sun; Enquiring Mind; Storytelling Magazine; Mountain Record; Zen Bow; Buddhadharma; Tricycle: The Buddhist Review and The Animals' Voice as well as in the books Who Says? Essays in Contemporary Storytelling; Between the Lines: A Modern Midrash; Peace Tales; Stories for the Spirit; Stories of the Heart; The Ghost and I; Read-to-Tell Tales, More Best-Loved Tales from the National Storytelling Festival and in A Treasury of Stories Recorded Live at the 20th Anniversary National Storytelling Festival. Rafe has a Master's degree in English literature from the University of Toronto. He was the first person to be granted Highest Honors in English from Harpur College (now Binghamton University) where he graduated magna cum laude. Rafe Martin is the recipient of the 2008 Empire State Award! In addition, Rafe has received three American Library Association Notable Book Awards, Four Parent's Choice Gold Awards, two Anne Izard Storyteller's Choice Awards, an American Folklore Society Aesop's Accolade Award, several American Bookseller "Pick of the Lists," an IRA Teacher's Choice Award and many other awards of Distinction. His work has been cited in Time Magazine, Newsweek, U.S News and World Report and USA TODAY. The Women's National Book Association has honored him with their Lucille Micheels Pannell Award for his "unique creativity in bringing children and books together."
