Hoover School News
Welcome Back: Although we have all enjoyed our summer vacation, it is wonderful to be back for the start of another
school year. The students bring life back to this building! Although the temperatures in our classrooms have been warm, it
has been a wonderful start to the year. We are happy to have so many of our students returning for another year and very
excited to welcome new students to our Hoover School Family. The Hoover teachers and staff look forward to partnering
with you to make your child's school experience and academic achievement this year the best that it can be!
Hoover Booster Club Fundraiser: The order forms for our Hoover Booster Club Fundraiser are in your child’s mailbag
today. This year we are asking students to take orders from family, friends and neighbors for Butter Braid pastries and sets
of drinking cups with your favorite team logo on them. Students may begin taking orders immediately on Thursday, August
23. All order forms and money are due back to Hoover School by Thursday, September 13. Orders will be delivered to
school in October. Our Hoover Booster Club Fundraiser helps fund our school field trips and other student activities and
equipment that we wouldn’t be able to offer otherwise. Please help us support Hoover students by participating in this
fundraiser! Thank you in advance for your help and generosity!
Arrival: Thank you in advance for your attention to our school arrival procedures. Supervision begins on the playground at
8:30. Please make sure, for your child's safety, that he/she is not on the playground before this time. Also, thank you to
parents who have been waiting with students on the playground to help make a smooth transition into the school year,
however, beginning on Monday, I must ask you to leave the playground after dropping off your student(s) so the children are
able to learn to follow our morning procedures and routine independently.
Dismissal: Bus students are dismissed at 3:20, and all other students are dismissed at 3:25. Please remember that the drive
up lane in front of school is reserved for our school bus, daycare providers and the Jule/Keyline bus. After the buses pull
out, you are welcome to pull in the drive up lane to pick up students. Since there is not much parking around Hoover
School, the area is VERY BUSY at dismissal time. Please be vigilant in watching for children who are walking, we want
everyone to remain safe.
Pick-Up: Please make arrangements ahead of time for your child’s pick-up after school. Make sure that your child’s
teacher knows and understands your pick-up routine, and keep the teacher notified of changes. If you do need to call to
make changes in your child's pick-up, please notify school as soon as possible by sending a note to your child’s teacher, or
calling the Hoover School office. Although we try our best, it becomes very difficult to get messages to our students after
3:00, so please call with any changes as early in the day as possible.
SCRIP: The Hoover School SCRIP program allows Hoover School to earn money when parents/ families and friends
purchase gift cards to local and national retailers and restaurants. A percentage of the total amount spent, depending on the
retailer, is paid back to Hoover School. The money raised through the SCIRP program is used to support students and
activities at Hoover School. In the past, SCRIP money has been used to purchase playground and recess equipment for
students, the large projection screen and sound system in the gym, walkie talkies for crossing guards to use for safety, as well
as classroom supplies for students and teachers. The SCRIP program is an easy way for you to help Hoover School by
buying gift cards to make purchases you regularly make, such as groceries, gas and clothing. If you are interested in
purchasing Scrip, please look for the order form you received in your child’s orientation folder on Monday. Thanks for your
Newsletter: You will receive a school newsletter every Thursday to keep you informed of school news and upcoming
events. You are receiving a hard copy of the newsletter this week in your child’s mailbag, but, in an effort to be more
“green” and save school resources, all future editions of the school newsletter will be sent to you electronically, via email to
the address that you listed in PowerSchool during the e-registration process. Please double check this email address to make
sure that it is correct. If you do not have an email address, the newsletter will be posted on our school website at
www.hoover.dubuque.k12.ia.us. If you have any questions, please contact the Hoover School office at 563-552-3700.
