JARED DAVIS Artist Statement Jared Davis, now in his late thirties, was born in New York City and raised in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado. He has spent the last 15 years working with blown glass. In 1995, Davis was introduced to Swedish glass masters, Jan-Erik Ritzman and Sven Ake Carlsson, who invited Davis to study with them in Transjo, Sweden, for two years. Prior to his trip to Sweden, in the winter of 1996, Davis studied Italian style glass blowing and glass sculpting at the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington. In 1998 Davis then returned to Crawford, Colorado with his family to become and active glass blower and designer for K Dahl Glass Studios. In 2001 Jared na dhis wife, Nicole, started their own business, “Davis Glass”, and in 2006 they opened the doors of their new hot shop, “North Rim Glass Studio, LLC”. Jared’s newest designs are a close up inspection of the colors, patterns and formations found in nature. The, “Birch Series”, is a loose representation of the Swedish white birch, showing subtle variations of moss and lichen found on these trees. Jared has implemented anew technique which consists of cutting blown elements and then reattaching them to create the final form. The “Morrison Formation & Desert Spire Series,” are a rendering of the color and form of the desert south west. Both series include multiple layers of powdered color, applied during the blowing process. The final finish is then created by sandblasting the piece after it has cooled. Jared’s work has significantly grown throughout the years. His application of color and creation of form result in one of a kind works of art with a unique recognizable design.
