I.        SCOPE

          This specification defines hot rolled structural carbon steel plate of structural quality
          conforming to ASTM A 36-94.



II.       APPLICATION

          This product is applicable to structures requiring good weldability and formability.
          Typical applications are bearing plates and those that are riveted, bolted, or of welded
          construction.




III.      COMPOSITION (%)

          % Carbon                 0.26 max.                 % Sulfur                  0.05 max.
          % Phosphorous            0.04 max                  % Manganese               0.80 – 1.20
          % Silicon                0.15 – 0.30.


IV.       CONDITION

          Maximum amount of cross rolling is desired for optimum formability and minimum
          directionality.

V.      MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
        A.   Tensile Properties

                Tensile Strength:               58,000 – 80,000 psi.
                Yield Strength:                 32,000 – 36,000 psi

                Elongation in 2 in.:            20% Min.
                Hardness:                       116 – 170 BHN

        B.      Cold Bend Test – FOR OSHOSH TRUCK CORPORATION GUIDANCE
                ONLY.

                1.      Plate specimens through 0.75 inches nominal thickness shall pass a 180
                        deg bend test around a diameter equal to 0.5t where t is the nominal plate
                        thickness
                2.      Plate specimens over 0.75 – 1.00 inches nominal thickness shall pass a
                        180 deg bend test around a diameter equal to 1t where t is the nominal
                        plate thickness.
                3.      Plate specimens over 1.00 – 1.50 inches nominal thickness shall pass a
                        180 deg bend test around a diameter equal to 1.5t where t is the nominal
                        plate thickness.
                4.      Plate specimens over 1.5 to 2.00 inches nominal thickness shall pass a
                        180 deg bend test around a diameter equal to 2.5t where t is the nominal
                        plate thickness
                5.      Plate specimens over 2.00 inches nominal thickness shall pass a 180 deg
                        bend test around a diameter equal to 3t where t is the nominal plate
                        thickness.
                Note:   Axis of bend shall be perpendicular to the materials principal rolling
                        direction.



V1      TOLERANCES

        Aim for ½ ASTM standard tolerance. Tolerances shall conform with those set forth in
        ASTM A6-94.


VI.     OSHOSH TRUCK CORPORATION COLOR CODE
The color code used on the material conforming to the above specification shall be
red/yellow.
