Study Methods is a course especially designed and offered to the Secondary I West Island
College student. It is taught as a separate course 1st semester and integrated to all
courses 2nd semester.

5. Learning Styles: Are you primarily an auditory, visual or kinaesthetic learner?
6. The Study Portfolio – Active Studying: Preparing Study Aids – Studying with your
Evaluations, which may count towards a cumulative percentage, include:
binder/notebook checks (of this course and others), agenda and locker inspections,
assignments, and the preparation of study portfolios in math, science, geography or
history. Please note that the final mark will only be issued on the second term report card
and will be based on the following competency: Adopts effective work methods.
To encourage application of the methods used in class, parents might be requested to sign
from time to time handouts and course notes that summarize the methods and thus be
better informed as to what is recommended by this teacher. Students are required to
maintain a course notebook complete with signatures from parent(s).
Extra-Help: All students are welcome to extra-help. Extra-help sessions are given
according to a schedule or by individual appointments if possible. Some students may be
required to join extra-help. All students must make the necessary efforts to arrive
prepared to the sessions (with questions and with their reading done).
