Congratulations on achieving a place in the Wind Orchestra. This is LSMS’s senior wind band
offering members an outstanding opportunity to work together to achieve the very highest standards
of performance. The Wind Orchestra rehearses weekly in preparation for a series of public concerts,
and offers students the opportunity of playing exciting and challenging music from the Wind Band
repertoire. As a member of the WO you will receive top quality training from a highly experienced
conductor and a professional coaching team.
You will find that the WO plays to a very high standard. This is not achieved lightly; reaching such
a high standard requires dedication from all members.
You will be expected to practise your music regularly, and take it to your lessons to get your
You will be expected to attend all rehearsals and concerts as scheduled. The success of the
Ensemble and the standard of playing is dependent on everyone attending all rehearsals as part of
Full details of the termly concerts will be emailed to you when rehearsals start.
You must be prepared to make attendance at all concerts a top priority. In the event of illness on
the day of a concert please arrange for someone to deliver your music to the concert venue in time
for the rehearsal as a 'dep player' may be required.
Concert dress for boys is black jacket, black shirt, trousers, shoes and black socks. Girls; black
evening dresses or skirt (at least knee length), or black trousers with black blouse and black shoes.
Full details of performances (rehearsals, ticket information, etc), will be issued two/three weeks

Please see the attached sheet for all known WO rehearsals and course dates.
Currently, transport is provided from various points around the City and County at a subsidised
cost to parents. Members using LSMS transport should alight at the Guthlaxton Campus and catch
the shuttle to Eyres Monsell Primary School.
The cost of buying or hiring orchestral parts is a big expense to this orchestra. Please take great

WIND ORCHESTRA COURSE
Due to the Restructure of the Music Service and the County Council Policy of redundant staff
leaving a month and a day before they can undertake LSMS work again, the first rehearsal in
the Autumn term will be the 6th October. As a result, Senior Orchestras will have six all day
rehearsals throughout the academic year and Intermediate and Training Groups will have two
all day rehearsals to reflect this late start.
All- day WO rehearsals will take place twice each term and are an ideal way to focus on
musical improvement and strengthen friendships within the group.
Autumn Term – Saturday 3rd November and Saturday 24th November
Spring Term – Saturday 12th January and Saturday 23rd February
Summer Term – Saturday 13th April and Saturday 11th May
All day rehearsals will be from 10.00am - 3.00pm at Eyres Monsell Primary School.
Students who usually use Saturday transport will be able to do so for all day rehearsals,
but will need to make their own arrangements to get home.
Students may leave the site at lunchtime (unsupervised) or alternatively will need to bring
a packed lunch and drinks.
In previous years, the Wind Orchestra has gone on a European Tour during the first week of
the state school summer holidays; it is hoped that this will be the case this academic year.
Further information will be available in the Autumn term.
PLEASE RETURN THE ENCLOSED REGISTRATION FORM BY
