The specifications of diving illness cases that arrived at
the Indonesian RUBT (Chamber Hyperbaric) and hyperbaric
clinics were rather different compared to those in developed
countries, where diving knowledge was more advanced,
evacuation facility and decompression, as well as other therapies

Abstract for various diving illness cases were covered by insurance,

Indonesia, generally patients arrived in a bad condition, after
being treated by general practitioners with no hyperbaric
                                  knowledge or non-qualified dive masters.

In some cases, patients came to the RUBT because they

were worried that they were suffering from decompression
illnesses and were scared of flying back to their original countries.
Clinical diagnoses were often further complicated by the lack of
their diving history. In some cases, it was not possible to
diagnose diving illnesses based on only the clinical symptoms.

Clinicians would have to diagnose based on a
combination of dive profile/decompression procedures, blow
                               up/emergency swimming ascent (barotrauma) and
Nitrogen(Gase) Narcosis. If the diagnosis was still unclear based
on the abovementioned combination profile, psychiatric
                               evaluation might be needed.

This paper outlined a case in which a dysthymic disorder

therapy with table V USN in Jakarta. In addition, there was

another diver who suffered from a headache/vertigo and was too

scared to fly back to his country. Both of them were referred to

Jakarta from Menado. It turned out that evaluations of their

clinical symptoms, dive profiles and psychiatric conditions by

hyperbaric specialists in Jakarta did not show any risk of

decompression illnesses, and the patients were safely released to

                               fly back to their countries.
