Class Aves
Birds belong to the class Aves.
Aves are feathered, winged, warm blooded, egg
laying, vertebrate, animals.
All species of birds are born alive in the egg. They
incubate (grow and develope in the egg) until
they hatch.
Around 10,000 living species makes them most
speciose (rich in number of species) class of
tetrapods (4 limbed vertebrate animals).
The Origin of Birds
The first birds were believed to be the
Archaeopteryx lithographica dinosaur which
had wings.
BIRDS
Birds are one of the six basic groups of animals.
Birds, best known for their ability to fly, are
unmatched in their command of the skies.
Albatrosses glide long distances over the open
sea, hummingbirds hover motionless in mid-air,
and eagles swoop down to capture prey with
pinpoint accuracy.
THERE ARE 9,865 SPECIES OF BIRDS
ALIVE TODAY
Of the 9,865 bird species, 1,227 species are
considered threatened with extinction, 838
species are near threatened, 7,735 species are
considered to be of least concern, and 65 species
lack the data to determine their status.
133 species of birds are known to have gone
extinct since 1500.

There are about 30 group of birds, here are some:
Albatrosses and petrels
Falconiformes
Turniciformes
Casuariiformes
What most birds eat
Birds eat: fruits, plants, seeds, worms, dead
animals, fish, bugs, and insects.
Examples of Birds
Some birds are: Blue jays, robins, eagles,
Humming Birds, Hawks, Penguins,
Geese, and many more.
