PART 1: Asking and Answering Questions

Then write your own question. Circle whether it is thick or thin.

One day Evan was visiting his grandmother. Grandma asked if Evan would like to make cupcakes. Of course,
he said yes! Grandma got out the ingredients. Evan helped make the batter in a large bowl. Next, he poured the
batter into some cupcake tins.
Grandma put the cupcakes in the oven. Then Evan helped Grandma clean up. While Grandma washed, Evan
dried. All of a sudden, she gave a cry.
“My wedding ring is gone!” she said. Grandma swirled her hands in the dishwater, but the ring was not in the
sink. Evan looked on the countertops, but it wasn’t there, either. Grandma carefully swept the kitchen floor, but still
there was no ring.
“Don’t worry, Grandma,” said Evan. “Your ring will turn up.”
That night, Evan’s parents came to have dinner with Grandma. After the meal, Grandma brought out the
cupcakes. She looked sad as she gave one to each person. Then Evan called out excitedly, “Grandma, I found your
ring!” Inside his half-eaten cupcake was the missing ring.
