RJD Tiling (Self employed Tiler) April 2005 – January 2008

Responsibilities & Duties

I started my business in April 2006 after leaving the Royal Navy and soon
developed a list of satisfied customers. I organised my own advertising and
took bookings for estimates and ensured all my prospective customers received
typed quotations, and on completion of the work received invoices. I also
maintained books for taxation purposes and ensured all taxation documents
were submitted within the correct timescales. Whilst being self employed I sub-
contracted for many Companies and was recommended for jobs based on the
work that I had undertaken. Whilst I was very saddened to give up self
employment it slowly became very apparent that it was becoming harder and
harder to compete with some of the very low quotes being offered by under-
skilled workers and also more people being happy to accept sub-standard work,
which thus added to my frustration.

Royal Navy (Operator Mechanic 1st Class) March 2001 - April 2005
Captain Ancona
HMS Cumberland
BFPO 261

Responsibilities & Duties

During my service with HM Royal Navy I held a highly responsible position
where I had to ensure the safety of, and in operational service, the lives of my
fellow colleagues. I was highly trained in health and safety and fire fighting to
the same standard as our civilian counterparts. First aid was also something
that I became competent in. My primary duties were the operation and
maintenance of multi million pound radar and weapons systems. I feel my
career with the Royal Navy has made me an extremely rounded person and in
my five years of service I have experienced things that had molded me into a
respectable, honest and hardworking team player. The only reason I had, for
leaving the Navy, was due to wanting a more stable family life.
