SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2008-2009

   • Transitioned the focus of the Career & Employment Center from a job search (placement) model to a
comprehensive, 4 year, career development model based on published career decision making models and the
research of structured and process oriented career theorists.
   • Rebranded Center: Career and Employment Center to Career Development Center.
   • Developed a new mission statement.
   • Remodeled front office to create a more welcoming environment for students and student walk-in advising.
   • Researched, selected and implemented career guidance software to assist students with career assessment and
exploration. Selected Focus II (no new funding necessary).
   • Provided staff training and development in the implementation of career assessment and exploration
instruments (Self Directed Search and Focus II).
   • Revised student 4-year Plan (Fr, So, Jr. Sr.) and renamed it the Career Success Plan focusing more on the
developmental tasks rather than the student’s year in school
   • Researched, selected and implemented a Webcam mock interviewing program, allowing staff members to more
efficiently handle the volume of students in need of this individualized service. Selected Perfect Interview (no
       new funding necessary).
   • Implemented “walk-in” advising program in the main office to better serve students by quickly and accurately
providing information for frequently occurring advising issues. Scheduled staff appointments reserved for
higher level issues requiring particular guidance and instruction for the student.
   • Incorporated student workers in providing a higher level of service in the Center.
   • Eliminated many outdated print materials and replaced with online information, accessible 24/7.
   • Began collecting student employment data using Emma software’s new surveying tool.
   • Surveyed TBR schools, UT schools, and other peer institutions on number and type of career fairs offered and
registration cost for each. Resulted in registration fee increase to better cover costs.
   • Created new budget tracking system from scratch, replacing paper ledgers with Excel spreadsheets, and allowing
us to maximize operations throughout the year.
   • Collaborated with Agriculture Department on starting an Ag Career Fair.
   • Developed Resume Writing Guide for web site as key component of resume advising process.
   • Cooperative Education staff eliminated and co-op duties absorbed by CDC

RECRUITING OUTCOMES

Organizations Interviewing on Campus
   • The past few years have seen an up-and-down result in interviews conducted on campus. This is a very
expensive program serving relatively few students. Further review and enhancement of this program is needed
       to remain viable.

Resume Referrals & Resume Views
   • A decrease in number of Resume Referrals and an increase in Web Resume Book views reflect a shift from
Coordinator-initiated referrals in order to encourage a more proactive search on the part of the employer. The
CDC has also implemented the practice of creating new resume books for each semester to target recent
graduates who are actively looking for employment.

Career Fairs
   • MTSU again increased student participation at both the Nashville Area College to Career Fair and the Nashville
        Area Teacher Recruitment Fairs.
   • Employer participation in the MTSU Fall Career Fair was down significantly from the previous year, and a
decrease in student participation suggests a lack of awareness of the declining economic situation.
    • The CDC hosted two new career fairs: the Criminal Justice & Social Service Fair and the School of ABAS Career
        Fair (agriculture).
