ENGAGE in Project-Based Learning
Our District is the authorizing agent for the developing ENGAGE Creative Arts and Culture Charter School
(starting in grade 6 or 7), to open in September of 2011. The DPI Planning grant for our school provides
for professional development for many District teachers. We are learning from our neighboring Fall
Creek Charter School, ‘Wildlands’, and the expertise of lead teacher, Paul Tweed. Paul will share the
concept of PROJECT-BASED LEARNING, a teaching method that many teachers are currently using, and
one that can enhance all teaching.
Paul will also share the details of Project Foundry, an assessment and standards-based program for
tracking projects and portfolios, and will show how it connects them to state standards. This applies to
grades 5 through 11.
