Overall Purpose of the Job
The Project Director is the senior paid staff member of Emmaus Mossley. She or he supervises and
manages other staff and ensures the proper running of the Community in accordance with the
policies, procedures and standing orders of the trustees and in accordance with the principles of the
Emmaus Movement.

Dimensions
Business Turnover:             circa £500,000 p.a.
Annual Budget:                         Ditto
Number of staff:               Six (5.2 fte), but to be reviewed when new post-holder in place.
Number of volunteers:          Currently 12, but there are plans for expansion.
Number of Companions:          Currently 24.

Principal Accountabilities

The Project Director will be accountable to the Board of trustees for
    Developing and reviewing
       ◦ The Community Business Plan
       ◦ The Community Budget
       ◦ All policies and procedures necessary for the efficient operation of the Community.
    Understanding that the Community must operate according to Emmaus’ ethos, values and
       mission, policies and procedures and remain financially self-sustaining.
    The support, development and training of the Community's Companions
    Ensuring that the welfare of Companions is at the forefront of Emmaus Mossley's concerns
    The management, development, training and recruitment of the Community staff and
       volunteers
    Ensuring compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory and statutory requirements
    Ensuring that sufficient and appropriate employee cover is available for the Community at
       all times
    Enhancing the Community’s profile and ensuring that its purpose and ethos is understood
    Maintaining progress with the Community’s implementation of the 2012-2017 Strategic
       Plan.
    Carrying out any other duties as required by the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Additional Requirements
   A requirement to learn and engage with the Emmaus ethos, and remain well informed about
       homelessness.
   Depending upon prior experience of Emmaus, initial training program may include periods
       of up to 2 weeks to be spent at other Emmaus Communities.
   A requirement to participate in national and international Emmaus meetings, for example
       Project Director/General Manager meetings, UK National Assembly and Emmaus
       International World Assembly.
   The working week is nominally 40 hours.
   A requirement to participate in and support Solidarity1.
   To lead the Community by example, demonstrating appropriate behaviours, values and
       culture, and Working alongside Companions and staff.
   An enhanced CRB check is required.
      Some week-end and evening work will be required and the job holder will be expected to
       participate in sleep-in and on-call arrangements from time to time.

General
Staff and volunteers must observe the proper demarcation and professional boundaries while
performing their duties and are expected to show respect towards Companions and other staff ,
volunteers and visitors at all times.

In Emmaus, volunteers are an important resource and make a vital contribution. You will be
expected to encourage, develop and support volunteer involvement in our work.
The privacy and confidentiality of Companions, staff, volunteers and supporters should be
respected at all times and no member of staff will share information unless explicitly authorized.
All data is held in Emmaus with regard to the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
Emmaus aims to be environmentally aware and to ensure all resources are utilised effectively and
efficiently. All staff are expected to apply sound ‘value for money’ principles in undertaking
purchasing or supply of goods and services.
