                                                                                 JOB DESCRIPTION

Salary Scale              £21,337 pro rata based on 21 hours per week (£12,115) paid monthly on 15th
                          of each month by bank giro.
Duration of Contract      4 year contract.
Main Duties               The development and implementation of the Hinge Centre Limited “Chances
                          for Life Bridlington and Goole Project” ensuring it meets its agreed project
                          outcomes as identified within the Big Lottery Reaching Communities project
                          bid within a community based setting.
                          Consult, engage and support residents and young people within the localities
                          of Bridlington and Goole and provide activities that will improve independent
                          living, improve employability, access further training and volunteering, and
                          develop their self-confidence and self-esteem which will help them contribute
                          to the local community and society.
                          Identify and set up new projects in conjunction with the Strategic
                          Development Manager to further enhance the project and the overall objects
                          of the Charitable Company.
Hours                     21 hours per week.
                          Hours of work will be between 9.30am – 4.30 p.m. (Monday to Friday)
                          depending on the nature and timescale of each session, a flexi-time system
                          will be in operation.
                          There may be some evening and possibly weekend working which will be
                          agreed, in advance, between the post holder and Strategic Development

Location                  The post holder will be based at the Hinge registered office (address above).
Qualifications            Educated to degree level or equivalent within a community based setting with
                          extensive experience of the third sector and the needs of residents and young
                          people living within the areas of Bridlington and Goole. Experience in
                          developing, delivering and managing new projects is as well as good IT skills
                          including experience of using Windows Packages in particular Microsoft
                          Office 2010 Professional.
Other Main                3 months’ probation for new appointments. Paid leave in case of sickness
Conditions                (dependent upon length of service). 28 days annual leave (pro rata for job
                          share/part time) plus bank holidays.
Physical Conditions       Office at Carlisle Street on ground level only.

Main Tasks

    1. To provide specific community based support, advice and information to residents and young
       people accessing the Bridlington Centre.
    2. To assess service users/potential service users in ascertaining the level of service required prior
       to personal action planning.

   3.    To advocate on behalf of residents and young people and develop strong relationships between
         them and other service providers within the localities of Bridlington and Goole.
   4.    To mediate with families of young people to maintain and develop strong productive family
   5.    To develop positive relationships with external learning providers in the area.
   6.    To develop a referral service to local agencies who work in partnership with the organisation.
   7.    To collate and monitor computerised statistical data.
   8.    Assist in the development of the project ensuring it meets its agreed outcomes as identified
         within the project bid.
   9.    Record, monitor and manage specific project budgets and provide monthly reports of
         expenditure incurred to the Strategic Development Manager.
   10.   Link into positive activities and identified training courses for residents and young people where
   11.   Coordinate a programme of weekly community and educationally based activity sessions.
   12.   Develop a focus group for residents living in Bridlington and Goole in order to encourage
         participation and to ensure that their voices have a direct impact on the programme.
   13.   Plan, develop and facilitate monthly street surgeries for residents living within Bridlington and
         Goole linking in with other key agencies within both towns.
   14.   Work closely with the Strategic Development Manager and partner agencies to enable access
         to accredited learning opportunities.
   15.   The recruitment, training and management of volunteers.
   16.   Assist in the development, design, implementation, review and evaluation of programmes of
         innovative work which respond to the needs of residents and young people.
   17.   Ensure that the project is appropriately publicised and is known to residents and young people,
         the local community and other relevant stakeholders.
   18.   Deliver specific programmes and activities in strict compliance with the Health & Safety
         obligations of the charitable company.
   19.   Ensure appropriate records are maintained at all times and all outcomes are recorded in line
         with the project bid.
   20.   Provide reports, statistical data, financial data and other information as requested by the
         Strategic Development Manager, the directors and the Big Lottery.
   21.   Develop a detailed understanding of need within Bridlington and Goole and of other service
         providers active within the target area.
   22.   Build and sustain effective partnerships with other stakeholders within the area who support the
         project in addressing the needs of the local communities of Bridlington and Goole.
   23.   To abide by the charitable companies Equal Opportunities Statement and with any other
         policies and procedures as required.
   24.   To assist the Strategic Development Manager in ensuring compliance, by all staff, with statutory
         and organisational Health & Safety Regulations (including risk assessments).
   25.   To attend regular supervision and/or appraisal meetings and to take part in training, seminars
         and conferences as and when required.
   26.   To represent the organisation in a positive and professional manner at all times.
   27.   To undertake any additional duties that is commensurate with this position.
