Job Title:                 Project Officer, Yorkshire and The Humber

Salary:                    up to £20,000 per annum pro rata

Hours:               18.75 hours (2.5 days) per week (job share)

Fixed Term:                contract to 31 December 2011

Base:                      Leeds Bridge House Hunslet Road Leeds LS10 1JN

Job Purpose:
To undertake the delivery of the UTravelActive project through co-
ordination of the project board and of a Student Champions programme
focused on the delivery of activities to increase levels of active travel
amongst Leeds based students, staff and surrounding communities.

UTravelActive activities include outreach to local schools and colleges,
Leeds University campus Bike Hub, ‘Velocampus Leeds’ - a student bike
loan scheme and active travel marketing and promotional events.
Participating project partners are University of Leeds, Leeds Met University,
Leeds City Council, Leeds Primary Care Trust, Sustrans and Leeds Trinity
and All Saints College.

Place in Organisation:
The jobholder will be responsible to the Regional Director, Yorkshire and
The Humber.

Key Responsibilities:
1.   To convene and support the UTravelActive Leeds project board,
     following up actions on behalf of the Regional Director, as
2.   To attend monthly UTravelActive Leeds steering committee
     meetings on behalf of the Regional Director, recording actions and
     reporting progress to the Regional Director.
3.   To recruit, induct and support Student Champions (in partnership
     with the appropriate University departments) to facilitate delivery of
     the following:
          outreach to local schools and colleges
          Leeds University campus Bike Hub and bike hire initiatives
          active travel marketing and promotional events
4.   To build partnerships with schools and colleges to maximise the
     impact of outreach initiatives.
5.   To support the direct delivery of the activities listed, where

8.   To carry out any general administrative tasks associated with
     supporting the UTravelActive Leeds project.

     organisation's health and safety management system including any
     project or department specific requirements.
11.  To carry out any other reasonable duties necessary to maintain the
     day-to-day functioning of the office in Leeds, the delivery of the
     work programme in Yorkshire and The Humber and in support of the
     delivery of the UTravelActive Leeds project.

Working Conditions:
The jobholder will be based at Sustrans’s regional office in Leeds.
Occasional travel throughout the region may be required. The
UTravelActive Leeds project will run to 2011 but it is anticipated that new
projects will be secured to sustain the post into the future.

Person Specification

     Good standard of education
     Previous experience of administration procedures
     Excellent communication and organisational skills
     Experience of report writing
     Experienced in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Internet
     Commitment to the ideals of Sustrans
     Experience of partnership working with local authorities, PCTs and
