New Funding Opportunities
Music Funding for Individuals Organisations & Groups (UK)
The Performing Rights Society (PRS) for Music Foundation, the UK's leading funder of new music
across all genres, has announced that its funding programme for individuals, organisations and
groups is open for applications. Funding is available to any individual or not-for-profit organisation
whose project or programme fits with all three of the PRS’s funding priorities, these are:
To support the creation and performance of outstanding new music in any genre
To develop artists to their full potential
To inspire audiences UK-wide.
Through this programme individuals as well as bands; ensembles; collectives; charities; local
authority and schools; etc can apply for grants of up to £25,000 (£5,000 for first time applicants).
Previous projects funded include:
Audioactive 2: a registered charity working to challenge disadvantage and enhance the
development of children and young people by providing high quality creative and musical
experiences throughout the South East.
Africa Express: This involved 100 of the top artists from Africa and the West touring Britain by
train with short shows on station platforms, market towns, town halls, schools and car parks.

The Edge Fund (UK)
The Edge Fund, which was initiated by a small group of philanthropists and activists in early 2012 is
now open for applications.
The aim of the fund is to support communities, campaign groups and activists struggling for social,
economic and environmental justice. Groups facing discrimination and injustice because of their
class, ability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or other factors can apply for grants of up to
£5,000 to challenge injustices and create just and healthy communities. To apply, the Edge Fund
requires a one page application describing who you are, your group’s annual income, what you do
and how you fit the Fund’s guidelines.
The deadline is the 1st December 2012, after which shortlisted applicants will need to provide more
details via written, audio or video applications.

Funding for IT Projects Supporting Disadvantaged Groups (UK)
Funding is available to organisations with innovative IT related project ideas that can make a positive
difference to disadvantaged and vulnerable groups. The funding, which is available through the
Nominet Trust, aims to fund innovative Internet projects that make a positive difference to the lives of
disadvantaged and vulnerable people. The Trust is particularly interested in funding projects that can
be scaled up and replicated. There is no minimum grant application and applications for over
£100,000 require an interview. Organisations wishing to apply, need initially to complete and online
application form. Those organisations deemed successful will be invited to complete the Stage 2
application form.
Previously projects supported through the Trust include:
Pottery Primary School, Belper, which received funding towards the costs of printed material
to raise awareness to parents, children and the community of internet risks and safety
measures; and
Learning for the 4th Age, which received funding to increase the use of IT in care homes to
benefit elderly residents and young volunteers alike.
The next closing date for submitting initial Advisory Eligibility Forms is the 12th December 2012. Stage
2 applications to be submitted by the 31st January 2013.

Grants for Disability Sport and Play (UK)
The Lord's Taverners has announced that its Disability Sport and Play programme is expected t o re-
open for applications on the 1st January 2013.
The Lord's Taverners is one of the UK's leading Youth Sports and Disability Charities and Official
Charity of Recreational Cricket. Through the Disability Sports and Play programme funding will be
available to schools, clubs and other organisations who cater for youngsters under the age of 25
years with a physical and or learning disability. Grants will be awarded for sensory, soft play and
outdoor play equipment. Grants do not generally exceed £5,000.

Funding for Childrens Outdoor Recreational Activities (UK)
The Outdoor clothing company "North Face" has announced the launch of a new funding round of its
Explore Fund. The Explore Fund supports not for profit organisations that encourage youth outdoor
participation. Grants of up to €2,500 are available for projects that encourage community involvement;
focus on breaking down barriers to getting youth outdoors; and projects that reach out to a specific
community or place of interest. Only one Explore Fund financial support package will be given to an
organisation in each calendar year and applications that can provide match funding will be viewed
favourably.

Royal Bank of Scotland Inspiring Enterprise Programme (UK)
The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced that it is seeking applications under it’s Inspiring Youth
Enterprise programme. Young people are one of three target groups that the RBS will be supporting
under its Inspiring Enterprise programme. As well as youth the programme will be supporting women
in enterprise and social entrepreneurs. Grants of up to £50,000 are currently available to not for profit
organisations, supporting young people aged 13 to 30 years. RBS are looking to support projects
helping young people to set up in business, deliver enterprise education, innovative networking
events, developing entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, and more. The fund will be open to
applications twice a year for the annual funding pot of £500,000.
There is a very short deadline for the first funding round. This is the 19th October 2012.

Tesco Charity Trust - Large Grants Programme (UK)
The Tesco Charity Trust has announced that its Large grants programme is open for
applications. The Trust gives one-off donations ranging between £4,000 and £25,000 to charities
working in the areas of:
Children’s welfare and education
Elderly people’s welfare
Adults and children with disabilities.
The funding is available to charities working on an international, national or regional basis in areas
where Tesco have a presence.

Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards (UK)
The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme has announced that its funding programme for
children’s education and children’s welfare will re-open for applications on the 1st December 2012.
The scheme awards one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000 to registered charities, schools
and not for profit organisations. The funding we give goes towards providing practical benefits, such
as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit children living in the local communities
around our stores in the UK.
Projects previously supported include:
Playground equipment in schools and local communities
Sensory garden or room projects
Outdoor classrooms
Breakfast and after school clubs
Holiday play-schemes
Part funding to purchase minibuses; etc.

Energy-Efficient Computing Competition (UK)
The Technology Strategy Board has announced a new competition to invest up to £1.25m in feasibility
studies to encourage technologies which can reduce the mounting energy burden of computing and
communications devices and systems. The increasing trend in electronic and computing systems on
a global scale is set to continue, to the point where it is likely to have a significant impact on climate
change. This competition focuses on the design and development of energy-efficient hardware and
software, not only for large-scale systems relying on computing capacity but also for mobile devices
and embedded chips. These feasibility projects must be undertaken by a consortium of at least two
partners, one of whom can be an academic institution, but they must be led by a business, which can
be of any size. Projects are expected to last six to 18 months and can attract public funding of up to
75%, with a maximum grant of £100k for an individual project. A briefing day for potential applicants
will be held on 23 October 2012.

Community Radio Fund (UK)
Telecom’s Regulator Ofcom, has announced that the Community Radio Fund opened for applications
on the 10th October 2012.
Under the fund, Community Radio Stations can apply for funding to support their core running costs.
These can include:
Management costs; administration costs
Fundraising to support the station
Community outreach work
The costs involved in using volunteers. There is no upper limit of grant that can be applied for,
however applicants are asked to take note of previous grants awarded for an indication of realistic
award figures. Grants can only be made to community radio licensees which are broadcasting under
a community radio licence (and not an RSL, for example). The average grant awarded over the last
few years has been in the region if £15,000.

Fulbright Teachers Exchange Programme (UK)
The British Council has announced that Teachers within the UK that would like the opportunity to trade
places with an American teacher either for an autumn term or a whole academic year have the
opportunity to apply to the Fulbright Teachers Exchange Programme. Exchanges involve elementary
and secondary schools, including kindergarten and community colleges throughout the United States.
For UK applicants the programme covers all levels from primary to further education and to be eligible
for support, the applicant must be a qualified teacher or equivalent, with five years full-time teaching
experience in the UK. Two of these years must be in the institution from which the exchange will take
place. The costs of transport for the exchange are covered by the programme and participants will
continue to be paid by their employer while on the exchange.

Hilton in the Community Foundation Grants (UK)
Organisations that work with young people have the opportunity to apply for grants through the Hilton
Foundation. Organisations such as charities and other not for profits can apply for grants ranging from
a few hundred pounds up to £30,000 per year for up to 2 years that meet one of the Foundation's
chosen areas of focus. These are:
Disabled children
Children in hospital
Homelessness
Life-limited children in hospices.
Previously supported projects by the Foundation have included:
Oakington Manor Primary School which received a grant of £1,000 towards equipment for journalism
projects.
Heathrow Special Needs Farm as awarded £10,000 in 2010 for two years’ support for the costs of
providing young people with disabilities and special educational needs the rural atmosphere of a
working farm a stone’s throw from Europe’s busiest international airport.
The next closing date for applications is 5.30 pm on 12th February 2013.

Funding for the Audio-Visual Sector (UK)
The European Commission has issued three new calls for proposals under MEDIA’s development
funding schemes. Media is the European Commission programme for supporting the European audio-
visual sector. Grants totaling €18 million are available to experienced independent producers of
fiction, animation, documentary and interactive projects. The Calls for Proposals cover three types of
funding: Development – Single Project, Development – Slate and Development – Interactive, each of
which have slightly different eligibility criteria and potential grant amounts.

Wetland Biomass to Bio-Energy Competition (UK)
The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced the launch of a £2 million
competition to promote innovation in bioenergy on wetlands. DECC are seeking applications to
design, develop and demonstrate an efficient end-to-end bioenergy system that optimises wetland
harvesting in line with conservation requirements and utilises the biomass arising. The competition is
aimed at organisations working on research and development (R&D) of an innovative process,
material, device, product or service prior to commercialisation. Funding is available for pre-
commercial R&D activities, including solution exploration design, prototyping, field testing, trials and
demonstrations. Funding is available for R&D activities only. The competition is split into three
phases:
Under phase 1 grants of up to £50,000 are available to get pre-commercial design ideas off
the drawing board and into more formalised project plans.
Under Phase 2 applicants can apply for up to £1million to get trials of their chosen project
idea up and running.
Under phase 3 successful organisations can apply for further money to improve their designs
and carry out further trials following the initial testing.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on the 7th November 2012.

Gregg Foundation Grants (England, Scotland & Wales)
Local Not for Profit Organisations can apply for grants of up to £2,000 through the Greggs Foundation
regional grants programme. The regional grants programme is administered by committees of
volunteers from Gregg shops, bakeries and offices who are based in England, Scotland and Wales.
They use their knowledge of the local area to make small grants to local organisations, in particular
those that make a difference to people in need in the heart of Greggs' local communities. The Greggs
Foundation prioritises local organisations that help people in need in their local area. Many charitable
causes can be supported through the programme. Most of the grants are to support an identifiable
cause such as trips, activities and equipment.
Additionally the Foundation prioritises the following people:
Voluntary carers
People with disabilities
Homeless people
Older people.
The next closing date for applications is the 11th November 2012.

Get Healthy, Get Into Sport (England)
Sport England has announced the launch of a new “Get Healthy, Get Into Sport” Fund. This is a £5
million pilot scheme which will award grants of between £30,001 and £500,000 via one funding
round. The grants are available for projects that will contribute to getting inactive people to
participate in sport for at least 30 minutes a week; as well as improve the evidence base for the role
sport plays in engaging inactive people. The funding is available to sports clubs, voluntary or
community organisations, local authorities and educational establishments like a school college or
university. Private sector organisations can apply but must show the project is for the public good or
for charitable purposes and that neither the company nor shareholders will receive any financial
gain. Sport England are looking to fund around 10 projects.
The deadline for submitting initial expression of interest forms is the 26th October 2012. Those
applicants successful at this stage will be invited to submit a full application.

Homelessness Transition Fund Launches Future Ready Fund
(England)
The Homelessness Transition Fund has announced the launch of its new Future Ready fund. The
aim of the Future Ready Fund is ‘To protect and enhance essential and strategically critical services
for single homeless people and support them in the transition to becoming sustainable’.
Grants of up to £25,000 are available for projects that /lead:
To stronger organisations or test/pilot new approaches that will attract funding; prepare
organisations for change
Build their skills and abilities to take advantage of new funding opportunities
Build relationships or partnerships which strengthen organisations and help to attract funding
and provide better services
Will make sure organisations can continue to support clients in the best ways possible.

Further Education Activation Fund (England)
Sport England has announced that its £8 million Further Education Activation Fund is now open for
applications.
The Further Education Activation Fund will award grants of between £30,000 and £150,000 to projects
that will allow more college students to take part in sport. Sport England encourages FE colleges to
consider linking with community partners to develop the breadth and quality of the sporting offer for
students.

Digital R&D Fund for the Arts (England)
NESTA, the the UK’s Innovation Foundation, has announced the launch of a new £7 million Digital
R&D Fund for the Arts. The fund which is run in partnership with the Arts Council England and the Arts
and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) will provide grants to support research and development
projects that use digital technology to enhance audience reach and/or explore new business models
for organisations with arts projects. Grants of up to £125,000 are available to collaborative
partnerships between Arts organisations, Technology providers and Researchers.
Nesta are accepting applications on a rolling basis until the 30th December 2013.

Year of Natural Scotland 2013 Open Fund (Scotland)
As part of Year of Natural Scotland 2013, Creative Scotland, in partnership with Scottish Natural
Heritage, is seeking applications from organisations in the environmental and creative
sectors. Funding is available to support around 15 arts and/or film projects, which promote and
celebrate the Year of Natural Scotland. £345,000 is available for projects, up to £120,000 of which is
likely to go towards celebrating John Muir Day 2013. Awards for individual projects are likely to range
from £10,000-25,000 for John Muir Day activity, and between £10,000-£50,000 for other
projects. Creative Scotland will prioritise activity that takes place in or near a recognised nature
reserve, park or place managed for people and nature. This can include National Nature Reserves,
National Scenic Areas, National Parks or one of Scotland’s Great Trails and/or helps promote and
celebrate the life and teaching of John Muir.
Creative Scotland encourages all organisations who are thinking of applying to register their interest
with Creative Scotland. This will not commit you to making an application, but is rather a statement of
intent which will allow us to plan resources appropriately. Please

Energy & Environment SME Growth Fund (Wales)
The Welsh Government has announced the launch of a new fund specifically designed to support
Wales based businesses in the Energy and Environment Sector.
The £330,000 Energy & Environment SME Growth Fund will initially run for two years and provide up
to a maximum of £50,000 funding for eligible projects. The Fund, which will be available to all small
and medium sized enterprises working across the Energy and Environment sector, will provide
revenue support and will not duplicate the existing Wales SME Investment Fund. Businesses
applying will need to provide a minimum of 50% match funding.
Eligible project costs could include:
Costs of bringing in industry specific expertise
Market research or studies
Costs of UK trade events
Costs associated with putting together a bid for larger funds (excluding Welsh Government
funded grants)
Legal advice on formation of a consortium or other Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)
Production of a marketing strategy.
Applications will be dealt with on a first come first served basis.

Research Challenge Fund (Northern Ireland)
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has announced the launch of the £1
million DARD Research Challenge Fund. The Research Challenge Fund, provides funding for Small
to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the primary production sector to support research and
development. The scheme will award grants of up to 50% for assistance with research for those
businesses that want to get involved in research in 2013. The maximum grant per project is
£250,000.
The deadline for receipt of completed applications is 5.00pm on 18 January 2013.

Grants for Community Food Projects (London)
Capital Growth, which aims to identify suitable patches of land around London has announced that its
11th Funding Rounds is now open for applications. Grants of up to £350 are available for capital costs
to community groups in London, who want to start a community food-growing space. Priority will be
given to applications for:
Materials to assist with increasing the amount of food grown on site or making the site more
sustainable
Helping the community group grow food to sell
Helping the community group to start a new food-growing space.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on the 29th October 2012.

Jack Petchy Foundation Small Grants Programme (London)
The Jack Petchy Foundation, which awards grants to programmes and projects that benefit young
people, has announced that its small grants programme will re-open for applications on the 1st
February 2013.
Any organisation who is operating the Foundation’s Achievement Award scheme effectively is eligible
to apply for an additional small grant once each year. The maximum grant available is £500 and the
total project cost must not exceed £5,000.
Previous grants awarded include:
James Hornsby High School, Basildon which used the money to buy new rugby kits for its students
and the Otherwise Club, Brent which used its grant to assist them in the cost of running several
workshops. The workshops were for young people to learn how to create, produce, and present their
own radio programmes under the guidance of an experienced DJ and broadcaster.
The closing date foe applications will be the 31 March 2013.

Funding Reminders
Funding for Creative Young People (UK)
IdeasTap, a non-for-profit initiative supports young creative people between 16 and 25 years of age,
has announced that its Ideas Fund Innovators is open to applications.
During this funding round the Ideas Fund Innovators aims to offer ten projects £1,000 each to help get
them off the ground. In the past, Ideas Tap have funded everything from dance and film projects to
music videos and photography collectives.
An example of a project supported is:
'Dance Wembley' which involved 220 ideas tap members dancing in front of 87,000 football fans at
Wembley.
Applications from any creative field will be considered. Ideas Tap are looking for projects that are
inspiring, original, innovative and that Ideas Tap think you can deliver.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on the 4th January 2013.

Idlewild Trust (UK)
The Idlewild Trust has announced that the next closing date for applications to its grant making
programme is the 22nd February 2013.
The Idlewild Trust makes grants to registered charities concerned with the performing and fine arts
and crafts, the advancement of education within the arts and the preservation of lands, buildings and
other objects of beauty or historic interest in the United Kingdom.
Previous projects supported include:
A grant of £2,000 to the Arcola Children's Theatre to create a new theatre production for
school children in London
A grant of £2,000 to the Welsh Ballet to discover, encourage, support and nurture talent in
ballet for young people in Wales.

McDonald’s KickStart Grants (UK)
McDonalds has announced that the next deadline for applications to its Kick Start Grants Programme
is the 31st December 2012.
The aim of the programme is to support community football throughout the UK. A total of £75,000 is
available in 2012 through the McDonalds Kick Start scheme and local community football teams can
apply for grants of between £500 and £2,500 for activities such as:
Improving club facilities
Grounds-keeping tools
Training courses
Pitch hire
Van hire
Washing machines for kit; etc.
Individuals can apply for a grant on behalf of their club, as long as they are recognised by their
national FA, and have at least one team at or below junior (U18) level. Applicants must be over 18
and involved with the club at some level, such as a coach, volunteer or parent.

Volant Charitable Trust (UK)
Registered charities whose purpose is to alleviate poverty and social deprivation with particular
emphasis on children and women’s issues have the opportunity to apply for funding through the
Volant Charitable Trust. The Trust which was set up by the author J K Rowling also supports research
into the causes, treatment and possible cures of Multiple Sclerosis. However this funding stream is
currently fully committed and is currently not considering further applications for funding in this
area. Applications for funding can be for up to £10,000. Applications for projects in Scotland are
dealt with by the Scottish Community Foundation.
The deadline for the meeting in September is the 25th January 2013.

Sport England Iconic Facilities Fund Re-Opens for Applications
(England)
Sport England has announced that although the Iconic Facilities Fund has re-opened for applications.
The Iconic Facilities fund is part of the £135m Places People Play initiative which will transform the
places where people play sport and contribute to an increase in mass participation in sport across
England. The fund will support the building and improvement of strategic new sports facilities used by
at least two National Governing Bodies of Sport. A key criteria of the fund will be to support facility

Birtley Young People’s Club received £573,610 for a new state-of-the-art multi-sports hub. The new
facility includes two gyms, three boxing rings, two junior grass pitches, an education/conference room
and office and classroom space.

£10 Million Innovation Fund for Oil and Gas (Scotland)
The Scottish Government has announced that it is inviting applications for funding from a new £10
million Innovation Fund for the Oil and Gas sector. This call will be for projects looking at improving
the integrity and reliability of assets in the oil and gas industry. This is the first of a series of calls for
bids under the fund. Projects funded under the scheme will help ensure offshore assets can continue
to run effectively and safely in the future, through inspection, change management, and analysis of
their future integrity. The Innovation Fund will be operated by Scottish Enterprise in partnership with
Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) who will engage with
industry to prioritise areas for innovation.

Research Funding for SMEs (UK)
The Eurostars Programme, which supports research in small and medium sized businesses, has
announced that the next deadline for applications is the 4th April 2013.
Under Eurostars, funding is available to SMEs to undertake research and development in any
technological area, but must have a civilian purpose and be aimed at the development of a new
product, process or service. Eurostars supports collaborative projects involving at least two
participants (legal entities) from two different Eurostars participating countries. Eurostars will support
projects that are market-driven and that have a maximum duration of three years. In addition projects
must be within two years of completion and ready for launch onto the market. The exception to this
rule applies to biomedical or medical projects, where clinical trials must be started within two years of
project completion.

Living Wetlands Awards 2013 Open For Entries (UK)
The Chartered Institute of Water and Environment Managers (CIWEM) has announced that its Living
Wetlands Award s 2013 are now open for entries. The CIWEM Living Wetlands Award recognises
multi-functional projects that demonstrate the sustainable use of wetland habitats. To be eligible for
the Award, UK projects should:
Either be work-in-progress or complete
Contribute to the delivery of priority UK Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) species and habitat
targets for wetlands
Demonstrate sustainability and delivery of multiple benefits e.g. flood alleviation, wastewater
treatment, recreation, eco-tourism, water resource security
Ensure no priority BAP species or habitats are harmed by the project.
The winning project will receive amongst other things a cheque for £1,500 to be used to fund the
delivery of further UK Biodiversity Action Plan targets, publicity of the project and/or related education.

(HIWWT)
The Moray Council with their entry 'The Wards Wetlands Wildlife Site' an urban wetland site
situated in the city of Elgin in Morayshire.

Recycle on the Go (Scotland)
Zero Waste Scotland has announced the launch of a new £500,000 fund to provide more facilities for
people to recycle when they are out and about. Funding is available to land owners, facilities
managers, and local authorities to provide more convenient and easy to use recycling facilities, in
busy public places such as train stations, shopping centres, leisure centres and events venues,
etc. Zero Waste Scotland will fund up to 100% of the eligible costs up to a maximum of
£160,000. Zero Waste Scotland encourage early applications due to the tight timelines of this
programme and the finite budget.
The final deadline for applications will be the 7th December 2012.

Money for Life Challenge (UK)
The Lloyds Banking Group is inviting young people to enter its Money for Life Challenge. The Money
for Life Challenge is a national competition to find the most innovative ways that young people can
improve their money management skills and those of their community. The Challenge is open to
young people between 16 and 24 years old and in further education, work based learning, adult
community learning or a training organisation. Young people can apply for one of 250 grants of up to
£500 to run a money management project. The best projects from each nation will win a donation to
charity, shopping vouchers plus an all expense paid trip to London to attend the UK Grand Final!
The closing date for entering the challenge is the 23rd November 2012.
