A brief introduction
to Foxconn
Foxconn ,founded in 1974, is a enterprise of high technology. Foxconn,
the world's largest professional manufacturer in electronics industry, has
developed rapidly since it set up his factories in Shenzhen in 1988,with
more than 600,000 employees and the world's top IT client group. In 2009,
it ranked the 109th among the world's top 500 enterprises in the Fortune
Magazine . However, from January 23, 2010 to November 5, 2010, 14
workers of Foxconn jumped off building, which made Foxconn getting much
more attention from the pubic.
The reason for a series of suicide
events in Foxconn
(1)Workers don’t
know each other,
even in the same
dormitory, so they
have difficulties in
communicating
with each other.
(2)The company only cares for
their production output and how
much profit they can make from
each deal, with less time paying
attention to their workers’ living
condition physically and mentally.
(3)The enterprise is ignorant of
workers’ interest. The workers
has a little basic pay, so they
have to sign an agreement with
the enterprise to work overtime
so as to get much more pay.
(4)The workers has less opportunities
to promote no matter how hard they
are.
(5)The media should take a
certain responsibility for this
event. The more attention the
media pay to this kind of thing,
the larger number of people who
commit suicide will be, which is
called “Werther effect”.(维特效应)
Some feasible suggestions
(1)The enterprise would better organize
some actives for workers to get together,
giving them more time to communicate
with each other.
(2)The enterprise is supposed to improve
their management and involves their
workers in their management.
(3)Some fringe benefit measures should be
taken to motivate their workers.
(4)The enterprise should provide more
chances for front-line workers to promote if
they do a good job.
(5)The labor union is supposed to care more
about workers and help them protect their
legitimate rights and interests.
