As many of you know, the Bergen County Association of Student Assistance
Professionals (BCASAP) is the regional association for all school-based Student
Assistance Counselors and related school professionals. Four times a year, BCASAP
members meet as a group to discuss the unique challenges they face working with
students, share resources, and participate in professional development programs on
prevention, intervention, counseling, and other relevant topics that impact on students,
parents, teachers, and school administrators. We are requesting that you consider
releasing the Student Assistance Counselor in your district from their duties so they can
attend these important programs.
In conjunction with The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources in Hackensack,
BCASAP meetings and training events offer Student Assistance Counselors opportunities
to learn information and develop skills that enable them to stay current in the ever-
changing field of providing counseling and support services for students.
We are aware of the challenges you face in meeting the multiple continuing educational
needs of an entire staff, and offer our assistance in making sure that SACs receive the
most relevant and up-to-date training available. Continuing education credits (CECs) are
provided for attendance at all BCASAP trainings and workshops.
Following is the 2008-2009 BCASAP training schedule:
October 7th, 2008 8:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M.
December 2nd, 2008 8:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M.
March 3rd, 2009 8:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M.
May 5th, 2009 8:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M.
Because the majority of Bergen County SACs have previously attended BCASAP
trainings, we thank you for your past support, and extend our appreciation in advance for
authorizing SAC attendance at trainings during the 2008-09 school year.
