First thanks to NCC for given this Web Design assignment to me. This Networking assignment is
for install a small network and produce supporting documentation to a professional standard.
Many steps or tasks are showing in this assignment. This assignment divided by only 3 (Three)
tasks. But for done this job I have faced many types of problem. But only one person helps me
with pleasure. This is my module (Networking) leader Mr. Mustafizur Rahman. It’s true that he
is a good personality person. Because, without the help of him, I can’t did my assignment
properly. Mr. Mustafizur Rahman supervised me as much as possible with all the required
concept and materials on the assignment through his valuable class lecture and advice. Finally
the entire task I did with serially and I earned a great practice for doing this assignment. I
enjoyed whole of my work with gratefully.
Problem Statement:

I have to set up a Windows-based or Linux-based network, which should include at least THREE
(3) networked machines. When the network is up and running:

   a) I have to create a folder called Myname_NCCID, in one of the networked machines,
       which is shared and viewable from the other networked machines.
   b) Folder I created earlier should contain the softcopy (PDF) of this assignment, which is
       uploaded locally. I have to share it with the other users on the network.
   c) I have to download ONE (1) free network tool to the folder created previously using a
       networked machine that is linked to the internet and share it with the others users on
       the network.
   d) In this network, I have to connect a printer for sharing purpose.
   e) Through the network machine, which is linked to the Internet, I have to visit the NCC
       Education website (www.nccedu.com) for take a screen dump of the home page and
       print it using the networked printer that I connect before.

I have to produce a report that carried out and completed this task with providing evidence,
based on screen dumps and proper documentation.
Introduction:

I have to complete this task in a network, which is set up either Windows or Linux based
operating system. This network should include at least THREE (3) networked machine, which is
connected using hub or switch for the purpose of sharing information of each network machine.
A printer should also include to the network so that other users can access the printer for their
printing use.
For this proposed assignment I have used Windows XP operating system in all of network
machines. In this network, there is SEVEN (7) network machines, which is up and running. All
of network machines are connected in workgroup computer called Lab4. In this network, I have
used one of network machine, which name is idcsnw15.

   a) Create a Shared Folder, Which is Viewable From Other Network Machines:
       I have to create a folder named MohammadFarhad_00113246 on the desktop of my
       network machine.

       First I have to right click of the mouse to create new folder on desktop. Then I have to
       press F2 key of the keyboard                        to rename the folder. (Figure 1, 2)

After the folder has been created, then right click on the folder to select ‘sharing and
security’ option for sharing the folder on network, which can access from other users
network machine. (Figure 3, 4)

After choosing the ‘sharing and security’ option, a dialog box will appear, which have
three tabs such as ‘General’, ‘Sharing’, ‘Customize’. I have to go on ‘Sharing’ tabs for
the purpose of folder sharing on network. There are two checkboxes,
which are selected for folder sharing and the share name text box
contains the folder name. One of the check boxes allow the folder for

sharing on network and another one gives permission to network users to      Figure 6
change my resources, which should be inside in folder. After that, the
shared folder’s icon would change to this icon. (Figure 5, 6, 7)

Then I have to go ‘My Computer’ to see inside of ‘My Network Places’. After that, I have
to click ‘view workgroup computers’ to see other network machines. There are Seven (7)
network machines in the same group name Lab4. I have to working with these Seven
(7) network machines, such as idcsnw1, idcsnw03, idcsnw06, idcsnw12, idcsnw14,
idcsnw15 and idcsnw26. (Figure 8, 9, 10)

   I have to download ONE (1) free network tool from the website name ‘filehippo’
   (www.filehippo.com) to the shared folder that has been created earlier. Every shared
   folder on network machines stored different ONE (1) free network tool.

   First I have to visit the website named ‘filehippo’ (www.filehippo.com). And then I have
   to click on ‘Networking and Admin’ for download ONE (1) free network tool. (Figure 24,

From the download list, I have to choose ONE (1) of free network tool. I choose ‘PuTTY
0.60 Beta’, which file size is 1.68MB. Then, I click right side hyperlink (Download Latest
Version) and a dialog box appear for permission to begin download. (Figure 26, 27)

Clicking on the save file button, showing the process of downloading. Downloaded file
has been stored inside the shared folder (MohammadFarhad_00113246) that created

After that, I have to go inside the ‘idcsnw12’ network machine. Then open the shared

d) Connect a Printer to The Network:
   I have to connect a printer to the network for the purpose of sharing the printer. Other
   user’s network machine can access the printer and can use for print their information.

   Installing printer is the first work I have to do. That’s why; I have to go ‘Control Panel’
   by clicking on ‘Start’ menu. After open the control panel, it shows ‘Printers and Faxes’.

Clicking on ‘Printers and Faxes ’, explore the printers or network printers list. After
clicking on ‘Add a printer’, appears an ‘Add Printer Wizard’. This wizard helps for
installing a printer or establishing a printer connection properly. (Figure 38, 39)

Clicking on ‘Next’ button appear with another dialog box, that ask me to select the
option that describes what type of printer I want to install or make connection. I need a
network printer that’s why; the bottom radio button is clicked. (Figure 40)

Clicking on ‘Next’ button appears with another dialog box, which asks me to specify a
printer. I need to browse for a printer that’s why; I click on the ‘Browse for a printer’

network printers. I have to choose that network machine (idcsnw06), which is attached
or connected with printer (HP2000C), and then select the network printer for completing

Clicking on ‘Next’ button appears with another alert box, which displays the message
that says my network machine (idcsnw15) about to connect to a printer on another
network machine (idcsnw06), which automatically installs a print driver on my machine.
For the security purpose, this alert box is displayed, now I have to click on ‘Yes’ button
for going to next step of this wizard. (Figure 43)

Click on ‘Yes’ button appears with another dialog box, which asks me to use the printer
as the default printer. I am supposed to do it, that’s why; I clicking on ‘Yes’ radio

Click on ‘Yes’ button appears with another dialog box, which display that the wizard is
successfully completed with showing printer settings. After clicking on ‘Finish’ button
close the dialog box and the wizard. (Figure 45)
e) Visit The NCC Education Website (www.nccedu.com), Take a Screen Dump of The
   Home Page and Print It:
   I have to visit the NCC Education (www.nccedu.com) website using any web browser
   (IE, Safari, Firefox) for take a screen dump of the homepage and print it using the
   network printer.

   I have to open the ‘Mozilla Firefox’. Then I have to type the web address of NCC
   Education (www.nccedu.com) website into the browser URL. When the website of NCC
   Education comes into sight, then I have to take a screen dump (alt + print screen).

After taking the screen dump of NCC Education website, I have to open the ‘Microsoft
Office 2007’ and paste (ctrl + v) it. Then, I have to give the command for print it (ctrl +
p) using network printer, before that I have to choose the printer from the list of printer.

Summary:

I connected SEVEN (7) network machines in this network using hub or switch. All the network
machines are in a same group, so that each network machines can share their resources with
other network machines. A printer is also connected in this network as a network printer for
printing reason. That’s why; each network machines can access the network printer.
Problem Statement:

I have to set up a report that illustrate the proposed network and the technology that is being
used.

   a) I am required to draw a clear, annotated and complete diagram of my network. The
      diagram will show the computers, Internet connection, and physical layer items (e.g.
      wires, hub, router, etc, if appropriate).
   b) I am required to give a brief technical description of the components shown in the
      annotated diagram, which should include screen dumps of IP addresses, Gateway IP
      addresses, and DNS server IP addresses, and MAC (physical) addresses of all the
      networked machines and the printer that I used in my network.
Introduction:

Here I am going to draw a clear, annotated and complete diagram of my proposed network and
describe the technical description for this task. The diagram will describe and show the
computers, Internet connection, and physical layer items (e.g. wires, hub, router, etc, if
appropriate). The diagram drawing will be done by computer drawing program. This should also
include screen dumps of all networked machines and printer addresses.
a) Annotated Diagram:
   I have to draw an annotated diagram that shows the networked machines, printer,
   internet connection and physical layer items (e.g. wires, hub, router, etc, if appropriate)
   for Task 1. (Figure 50)

b) Brief Technical Description of The Components:

   This network is the mainly basic type of network that permits several users to distribute
   information or resources such as printers and scanners. Each computer is connected
   directly to the other computers with each treated equal on the network. Each computer
   can share resources or information with any other computer on the network without a
   centralized computer or server. In this type of network, each connected computer has
   an equivalent responsibility and role.

   Hardware Setup:

      Attach an Ethernet cable from the WAN port of the hub to either the Ethernet port of
       the internet modem or, if expanding a network, to an empty LAN port on the
       accessible network’s router, switch or hub.

      Plug up an Ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports on the Ethernet hub and
       connect the other end of cable to the computer or device that will be added to the
       network. Repeat for any other devices that will need to be on the network.

      Power up the Ethernet hub and the computers or other devices attached to it. On
       the front of the hub will be a series of LEDs that correspond to each LAN and WAN
       port on the hub.

   Software Setup:

   Configure the network settings on each connected computer.

      Click the “Start” button in Windows, select “Control Panel" and double-click the icon
       labeled “Network Connections.”

      Right-click on the icon for the Ethernet adapter and select “Properties”. Click on the
       check box marked “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and press the “Properties” button.

      Select the radio button labeled “Use the following IP address.” Enter a unique IP
       address for the computer and the applicable subnet mask. Press the “OK” button
       and reboot if necessary.

      Enable file and printer sharing from the “Properties” dialog for the Ethernet card if
       files will be transferred between the networked computers.
         Click the “Start” button, select “Control Panel” and double-click on the “System” icon.
          Select the “Computer Name” tab and click on the button labeled “Change” to set the
          computer’s network name. In the “Computer Name” box, enter a unique name for
          the computer. In the “Member of” section, choose the radio button marked
          “Workgroup” and enter the workgroup of the network. If setting up a new network,
          this name can be change but all computers on the network must share the same
          workgroup name.

         Verify that all computers can access the network and the Internet if connected.
