Claiming Tax Back for Training Years
With immaculate timing following our circular AEP/022/07 on claiming tax back
by members the HRMC have changed their ruling. We received this email in the
general office on March 15th from the Local Government Employers.
”In Aug 2006 Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs ruled that the monies that
trainees received should not have been counted as salary, but as a bursary, and
that tax and national insurance should not have been paid. We have recently
received an update to this ruling that states that this will only apply to those
wishing to claim for the period 6 April 1999 and after. I have attached a link to our
website giving information on this. Could you distribute this to members of your
staff who trained on the courses and who would be able to claim.”
