UNITED WAYS OFFER SCHOOL READINESS TOOL
SPOKANE – Erica Hallock, President/CEO of the United Ways of Washington (UWWA),
announced that thanks to generous printing sponsorship by The Boeing Company, more than 36,000
calendars are available for preschoolers in 14 communities in our state in both English and Spanish*.
These calendars are designed to help prepare four year olds for success in kindergarten through
everyday, no-cost activities that four-year olds can enjoy with their parents and caregivers.
“We know that parents are a child’s first and most important teacher,” Hallock said, “and we also
know that children learn through play and exploration. These calendars provide easy-to-implement
activities that fit into a family’s busy daily routine and also help get children ready for school.
Whether it’s pointing out shapes while walking to the park or practicing skills like zipping on their
own coat, these activities create learning moments that parents can do with their children.”
Limited supplies of the calendars are available at the following locations: The YMCA of Grays
Harbor, Wunderland Childcare at Grays Harbor College, The Children’s Advocacy Center, Snug
Harbor at Harbor High, Headstart, The Early Learning Coalition of Grays Harbor and Grays Harbor
and Pacific County Timberland Regional Libraries.
“With the start of school right around the corner, we have learning on our minds so this is a perfect
time to distribute these great calendars”, said United Way of Grays Harbor Executive Director, Lynsi
Polanco. “These are such valuable tools for parents and three and four year olds” added Polanco.
“We are so thankful for the Boeing Company’s generosity and for including us in this sponsorship.
The United Way is a huge early learning advocate and statically speaking, the numbers show the
effects of early learning as beneficial to a child’s future and overall can save thousands of dollars. We
are excited to share this opportunity with our communities.” For more information on these calendars,
you can call the United Way of Grays Harbor at 532-6260.
* Communities receiving calendars include: Benton-Franklin, Chelan-Douglas, Clallam, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor,
