PCounter to Pharos
March 9, 2010
Over Spring Break, Pharos was installed on all OCCS lab workstations. As a result, there have
been a few changes to the printing process. Instead of having the paper balance listed as a
number, it is now listed as a monetary value with each sheet valued at $0.05 for black and white
printers and $0.50 for color printers.
For example, if the student had 100 sheets left, they now have a current balance of $5.00. Every
time a student goes to print, they will get a pop-up window that gives them the cost of the print
job and their current balance. As long as the current balance is higher than the cost of the print
job, the student DOES NOT have to pay to print the job. If the current balance is lower than the
cost of the print job, direct the student to the Pay For Print section of the website
(http://occs.odu.edu/labs/payforprint/) or to the TechStore to purchase more paper. The Monarch
TechStore will only accept Monarch Plus Card and cash. All credit card transactions must be
done online.
This is the pop-up that students will see every time they try to print. The value outlined in red is
the total number of sheets they have left. Since this job is only $0.05, the student would be able
to print and have it deducted from their total balance.
This student would be unable to print because the total cost of the print job is more than the
balance.
