SECTION - I – RAILWAY EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
NOTE: This audit section must be conducted by verification of applicable documentation and
personnel interviews.
Due Diligence Requirement Describe observation found:
Does the SMS section “I” clearly state:
The process to be followed in the event
of a railway incident?
The Alberta Transportation
Coordination and Information Center is
to be informed immediately of a railway
incident?
The service provider’s emergency
phone number?
Any outside emergency responder
contact information?
Test the functionality of the emergency phone
numbers.
Verify railway staff is aware of the incident
response process that is noted in Section “I” of
the SMS.
Verify incident reporting staff is aware of what
type of railway incident is reportable
immediately to the Alberta Transportation
Coordination Information Center.
NOTE: To ensure ongoing safe railway operations, this section is intended to evaluate the safety
management system plan emergency procedure components by ensuring they are current and relevant.
