Subject: Financial help for medical treatment of CIDP and related steroid-induced side effects.
References: Case summary, medical certificate, medical bills etc. from SCTIMST, Trivandrum-
I, Saji Kuriakose, am suffering from chronic relapsing chronic inflammatory
polyneuropathy with steroid induced type -2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension and central serous
retinopathy in both eyes. I have lost 50% eyesight in the left eye and 25% in the right eye for
which I have been undergone laser therapy thrice and the condition was slightly improved.
Due to steroid induced diabetes, hypertension, central serous retinopathy and further
side effects which will likely to occur, further hike of steroids is not possible. Hence the neuro-
muscular team advised the intravenous immunoglobulin (Ivig) therapy. The ‘treatment dose’
was initiated with Ivig 2g/Kg over 5 days as the first course on March 2012.It was costed Rs:
4.05 lacs (65 Kg weight x 2g = 130g → 27 bottles x Rs : 15000; medical bills are
attached).Fortunately, the tax amount was exempted by the hospital. Now I require ‘monthly
Ivig pulse therapy’ (preventive dose) 1g/Kg (may be changed to 2g/Kg depending on clinical
problems) for about 24 months according to medical experts.(nearly 24 maintenance doses x Rs
1.25 lacs/each dose – the duration of the treatment depends on the response to treatment.)
Accordingly, the first maintenance dose was given on 12th April 2012 and it was costed 1.25
lacs (Medical bills are attached). Then I will be readmitted for the second ‘monthly Ivig pulse’
on 24th May 2012, which will again cost Rs: 1.25 lacs and so on till the course completes. Now I
have considerable improvement with the Ivig infusions.
May I inform you that my family and friends have helped me a lot so far? Now I am
physically, mentally and financially very weak; I need help for my treatment to have my life
saved, to perform daily normal/minimum functions. So I humbly request my well-wishers to
scaffold me if you don’t mind.
With best wishes I remain. Thanking you all.
