Fr Chris writes … “It seems a long time has past now since I joined you back in 2000 as the First Diocesan
Parish Priest for Bexhill, following on from the Rosminian Order who had served the Community for just over 100 years.
Now, Bishop Kieran has invited me to embark on a new challenge and a new chapter of my Priesthood.
I have been asked to serve as Moderator of the Combined Parishes of St Joseph’s - Redhill, The Holy Family – Reigate
and St Theresa’s – Merstham. The Parish is called “The Nativity of the Lord” and operates as a team ministry currently
with three priests and a deacon. Over the next four to five years there will be a lot of building work and continued work
to shape the new parish as we will seek to work as team in continuing the ministry and mission of the Church in that
part of Surrey.
I will of course be extremely sad to leave Bexhill and the wonderful Churches and Schools that have become my foster
family. I will miss all of you who have shared so much love, warmth and understanding with me. I ask your prayers as I
prepare for change and challenge; and for all the other Priests of the Diocese who are moving Parish this year.
I am very pleased to say that Fr David Parmiter has been appointed to serve this Parish (some of you may remember
him from his time as Assistant Priest at Our Lady of Ransom, Eastbourne, where he served with Fr Seamus). Fr David
is looking forward to his time here in Bexhill (where he and Fr Bruno will continue to minister) I know he will be made to
feel extremely welcome.
I am away for a week at the end of July and will be moving before the end of August. With packing, preparation, and
fulfilling existing Baptisms, Weddings and other engagements, I will not be able to take on too much more; but I look
forward to my final weeks here, and hopefully with time for a few more seafront walks!
Thank you for your anticipated prayers and personal support. Fr Chris Spain
