The Informative Speech: The Virtual Classroom
Using various informative speeches, each group will prepare a lesson for the
Virtual Classroom. This project will take approximately 3 weeks to complete from start
to finish. It will include introductions, announcements, demonstrations, interviews and
lots of information. You will teach a science, biology, chemistry, or physics lesson using
MovieMaker or Producer. Time limit: 8-12 mins.
ASSIGNMENT # 1: Selecting a Topic Due:
Each group will select a topic for their lesson. Using the topic selection sheet, turn your
choice in to your teacher. Use the websites included with your topic selection sheet to
decide on the topic you will present. Remember that you must have something to
demonstrate live on camera. Topics are assigned on a first come first serve basis.
ASSIGNMENT #2: Assign Duties Due:
Each group will select a leader and co-leader. The leader will then assign the duties of
each member. The duties are as follows:
a) The teacher- will present the lesson to the class and help research
b) The researchers- Find information about your topic choice and keep record of
sources (all members)
c) Graphic Designers- will select the graphics and design the introductory slide and
the ending slide.
d) Writers- Using the informative speech outline, will write the lesson for the teacher
presentation. (teacher must be included in this group.)
e) Interviewers- will interview one teacher in the science wing about the value of the
f) Pictoral designer: choose the pictures and graphics that will go with the
g) production manager- Using Movie Maker, or Producer will put presentation
ASSIGNMENT # 3: Working Outline Due:
As instructed, prepare a working outline to be used for research and preparation of
ASSIGNMENT # 4: Research and Interviews Due:
Each member will thoroughly research their topic. You must turn in at least 20 notecards
per person. Assign portions of the project to be done by each individual. Prepare at least
5 open- ended questions about the invention or discovery and how it affected our lives.
You must get permission from the teacher to film their responses and to include them in
ASSIGNMENT # 5: PUT IT ALL TOGETHER Due:
Using Movie Maker or Power Point put your lesson together. Include the necessary
handout and quiz to determine if your lesson was effective. Each member needs to help
with this. DO NOT FORGET TO INCLUDE A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF YOUR
SOURCES AT THE END OF YOUR PRESENTATION.
ASSIGNMENT # 6: PRESENTATIONS Due:
Each presentation will be viewed and all class members will participate in the activities
prepared by your group. Each group will grade assignments and quizzes.
I will record the grades in the grade book as participation grades. I will prepare a grade
sheet for you to turn in the grades.
