THIS IS THE TITLE OF THE ABSTRACT SUBMITTED TO THE 10TH INTERNATIONAL
NPY-PYY-PP MEETING / GIPIO MEETING.
Colmers W., Cox H., Beck-Sickinger A., Gehlert D., Quirion R. Department of alumni, NPY-PYY-PP University,
Montreal, Quebec, Canada, H0H 0H0.
The eagerly-anticipated 10th International NPY-PYY-PP meeting will be a forum in which cutting-edge innovative
science will be presented to the scientific community, with an opportunity for the exchange of ideas on the role and
implication of this peptide family in obesity, psychiatric, cardiovascular, cancer and metabolic disorders.
Neuropeptide Y (NPY), peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP) are a family of regulatory peptides with
important roles in a broad range of physiological functions including energy homeostasis, learning and memory,
autonomic and cortical synaptic transmission, cardiovascular responses, circadian rhythms, reproduction, stress, anxiety
and pain. Most recently, exciting new avenues and developments in this field have been reported including: its role in
bone metabolism and diabetes, the NPY gene promotor polymorphism associated on susceptibility to ischemic stroke,
NPY gene therapy as potential clinical application for epilepsy and their implication in regulation of tumors growth,
particularly in pancreas, prostate and breast cancer, which will be discussed in oral and poster sessions.
The scientific program includes 3 plenary talks by internationally-renowned investigators and fifteen oral sessions, each
with 3 to 4 speakers (some will be selected based on abstract submitted) will present the latest findings in the NPY,
PYY and PP field, covering a broad range of basic and clinical interests (obesity, anorexia, epilepsy, cancer,
cardiovascular, mental health, diabetes, bone and pain). To create a buzz, 30 student and postdoctoral trainees will also
be chosen to give a brief oral presentation (2-3 min) of their posters in advance of the 2 poster sessions planned. Over
the four days of this meeting, participants will be provided with an excellent opportunity to learn the state of the art in
this field, and to fully participate in the scientific exchange, as has been the tradition for the previous 9 international
meetings in this field.
