My Personal Growth Statement
At the beginning of this course, I thought that I had a pretty good idea
about how technology worked and how to utilize it efficiently. However, I was
soon to learn that I was very much mistaken. I knew that there was a lot that
went into technology, but I had no idea of all of the capabilities and variants in
technology. This course has showed me how to navigate, choose, and use
technology to cater to my specific interests. The Scavenger Hunt was the
beginning of my journey through sources, and the Final Exam Checklist was the
culmination of a semester full of frustration and improvement. I feel like I am
leaving this class with a much bigger grasp on technology. I understand the
problems and the options.
I have absolutely loved working on my Webfolio. I really feel that I decided
on a topic that would definitely benefit me in the future. Also, I have been
completely absorbed in the creation of the project. I have loved children’s
literature for a while, and this Webfolio project allowed me to research and go
even further into the realm of children’s books. While I concentrated on the
Webfolio, I had a tendency to neglect my other course assignments. I thought
that I knew enough about technology to quickly finish the assignments by the
appropriate due date; I could not have been more wrong.
The different assignments were challenging, frustrating, and aggravating;
however, after each one, I had a sense of self-improvement and was proud that I
had accomplished what I did. I reflect back on them as that type of help that is
not welcomed but appreciated afterward. I know that I have learned so much
from them. I feel confident in being able to add these technological sources to
I want to become a teacher. Today, technology plays a vital role in the
classroom. On interviews, one is asked what kind of technology would be
implemented in the classroom. I would feel rather threatened by technology if I
did not have a greater understanding of it. Not only that but children today know
so much about technology; it would be sad if I could not keep up with them. Also,
there is so much information out there. We are in the Information Age... I want to
take advantage of this technology. There is so much more to offer children now.
In order for me to be a good teacher, I want to help my students as much as
possible. Technology can help me do that, and I think I realize that now more
after this class.
One of the aspects of this course that helped me the most was the
creation of the rubrics. I was always hesitant in using rubrics before. After this
course, I know that they have helped me in so many ways. It is prudent to go into
research knowing my own standards for mediocre, good, and great websites and
resources. I know that the various assignments have allowed me to play around
with and master rubrics for my own purposes. Also, learning Excel more
thoroughly has really helped me and not just in this class either. I have been able
to use Excel in planning my wedding (guest lists and other similar usages). I
used Excel before but not to the extent that I used it in this class.
I am grateful that I had the opportunity to take this course. I have grown in
my understanding of technology, which is something that I think is pivotal in being
a teacher. I will be able to upgrade my lessons and organize my ideas and
methods for teaching. I know that I have learned so much this semester.
Technology was challenging for me, and it remains thus. However, I have a
positive attitude now and do not feel overwhelmed or threatened. Instead, I view
it as an aid in my classroom of which I have only to try to understand, and it will
be beneficial and worth all the work... for me and for my future students.
