                                                     2012-2013 School Year

Overview
When looking to revise the existing business plan template from the 2011-2012 school year, it was important to build on the
strengths of the existing plan, while taking into consideration the feedback of those who work with the template regularly. Feedback
was collected from numerous NFTE teachers and program staff to identify how the plan could be better constructed not just as a
template for competitions, but as an invaluable tool for supporting instruction and student learning in the classroom. Therefore, the
new business plan template was designed to address these identified concerns, give students a more academically rigorous
experience, and provide teachers with more robust instruction and evaluation tools.

Constructive feedback of the FY12 Template
 “Over-templatized” sections do not allow students to expand and describe their thoughts
 Template not designed to support a persuasive narrative of the student’s business
 Does not enable student to explain how the business would actually function if it was to be implemented
 Too many slides and/or unnecessary information in presentations (kept in for the sake of assessing learning)
 Many classes have limited access to computers and/or Power Point
 Allows students to “hide behind the template” without fully explaining the ideas behind the slide’s content
 No standardized way of evaluating student performance across the organization
