							                                 IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Dear Parents,
In an effort to make sure our communication lines are clear, the following information
will keep you updated on our school’s policies and procedures:

Arrival
Students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and be picked up no later than 3:00
p.m. Supervision is only provided during these time frames. All students are encouraged to
leave the campus promptly following dismissal.

Students need to arrive on time daily. If a student has three tardies in a four-week period,
he/she will have to serve detention. The beginning of the day is a valuable instructional time for
all students. When a student comes in late, he/she disrupts this important time for other
students.

Before and After School Traffic and Pedestrian Guidelines
Traffic maps and guidelines have been sent home. Thank you for making the effort to maintain
a safe environment for all children. Here are just a few reminders.

       Drop- Off:
       1. Get to school a little early if possible, particularly on rainy days. It’s often amazing
how short the line is at 8:10 and how long it gets by 8:20.
       2. Drive slowly and be extra careful on mornings when the sun is in your eyes.
       3. Be patient and do not open the door until you have pulled as far forward as you can
in the drop-off lane. Have children and backpacks ready to go.
       4. It is dangerous to exit on the driver’s side. If your child can’t get out on the
passenger’s side, don’t use the drop-off lane. Please park, help your child out of the
car and walk him or her to the drop-off walkway.

       Neighborhood Drop-Off and Pick-Up:
       1. If you drop off or pick up your child in the shopping center or church parking lot,
please make sure they do not loiter and that they obey all traffic laws while crossing
Yorba Linda Blvd. and Fairmont Blvd.
       2. There is no supervision once a student leaves campus, but they are expected to follow
          all school and safety rules.
       3. The Police Department is working with us to make sure that our students arrive and
          leave school safely each day.

       Walkers and Bicycle Riders:
       1. Cross only at crosswalks and respect crossing guards. Bicycles must be walked across
the street and to and from the bike racks.
       2. Go directly home, do not remain on campus or linger at the shopping center.

Thursday Mailbags
All communication for parents from the school or community will come home every Thursday in
a mailbag. Parents are asked to remove the contents, sign the envelope, and make sure your
student returns the mailbag to class on Friday. This will ensure that every family receives all
communication from school. Each class will need a parent volunteer to assemble the contents
and stuff the mailbags each Thursday. Thank you!
Items Forgotten at Home
In our ongoing effort to teach responsibility, please remind your child that homework, lunches,
musical instruments, etc. are their own responsibility. Late lunches and lunch money may be
placed in a container in the front office that will be taken out at lunch time. Homework may not
be delivered to the office once school has begun. It is the student’s responsibility to return
homework.

Changes in Dismissal Arrangements
Please make plans regarding dismissal arrangements with your child before school. Whenever
possible, try not to change your plans during the course of the day. These changes are often very
confusing to children. If your child needs to be picked up early, please send a note with him or
her to give to their teacher. If new arrangements for going home need to be communicated,
please call the office to leave the message. Do not count on the teacher to check voice mail or
email during the day.

Security
The campus will be locked down from 8:30 a.m. – 2:47 p.m. each day. During the first week of
school many parents wait with their children in line until the 8:10 bell rings. We encourage
independence after that.

All parents/visitors/volunteers MUST check in through the office and get a visitor badge. This
includes lunch periods. For the safety of all children, we must know when there are visitors on
campus.

Requests for Homework
Homework may be requested from your child’s teacher after the 3rd consecutive absence. Please
do not contact the front office. Encourage “Homework Buddies” ie. each child in class having 1
or 2 phone numbers of fellow students to call regarding homework issues. Students may want to
write phone numbers inside of their daily planner.

STAR Testing
This year the state California Standards Tests (CST) will be given during the two weeks of April
27 through May 8 with make-ups the week of May 11 - 15. Please avoid making any
appointments for your child during this time that would conflict with testing. It is in your child’s
best interest to be in attendance when the tests are administered. Make-up tests are given for
any child who has been ill.

Early Release Every Wednesday
To provide for staff development and collaboration, each Wednesday students will be
dismissed at 1:47. Students should be picked up no later than 2:00 p.m.

Minimum Days
On the following days, students will be dismissed at 1:17 and should be picked up no later
than 1:30: Nov. 12 and 14, Jan. 23, and May 27 and 28.

If you ever have a question or concern, please contact your child’s teacher first. If the teacher is
not able to resolve it, we may find it helpful to involve the administration. We appreciate your
help and support in keeping our school orderly and safe.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Shawn Knutson, Principal Mrs. Cindy Rex, Admin. Assistant
