AXE LIBRARY GUIDELINES
Receipt of Gifts
The Leonard H. Axe Library welcomes gifts to enhance the value of the Library collection for the
citizens of the State of Kansas and the region. Monetary gifts as well as gifts in kind are appreciated.
Gifts in kind will be accepted with the understanding that, to be added to the collection, they must
meet the same selection criteria as is used for purchased materials. The Library reserves the right to
determine collection placement and circulation policy of all gifts in kind. Further, gifts in kind which
are donated but not added to the collection may be handled in one of the following ways:
1. Given to or exchanged with another library.
2. Returned to the donor.
3. Sold, and the money used to purchase library materials.
4. Offered gratis to the university community.
5. Discarded (usually reserved for material in very bad condition)
Federal Internal Revenue Service regulations inhibit library evaluation of gifts in kind for income tax
purposes for a donor. The library will not provide evaluations of gifts in kind, but it will provide
information concerning the availability of professional evaluators to those seeking such information.
Monetary gifts will be deposited with the Pittsburg State University Foundation. These gifts will be
expended by the University in conformance with the donor's request when it is consistent with
selection procedures and priorities. When a donor request is inconsistent with University selection
procedures or priorities, the University will contact the donor in order to see if the monies may be
used for a different purpose. If University and the donor cannot mutually agree upon an alternative,
the gift will be returned.
