Agency – Latium Morini, Veneto Italy & Olim Bauda, Piedmont Italy
(Include relevant information on our current relationship with the supplier)
Latium was created by seven brothers and cousins of the Morini family who, like so many in Italy, worked with the local Cantina Sociale. They realised they shared a
passion for quality, a passion for their land and, rather conveniently, vineyards in Valpolicella and Soave! They also had space to build a winery on the land so very
recently left the coop and started to work on their own.
We are very excited to have discovered Latium Morini at a very early stage. What they may lack in track record, they more than make up for in the quality they are
producing. Their innovative outlook, informed winemaking and viticulture, value for money, not to mention their exciting and contemporary presentation, all makes for
a compelling package.
The wines are all one would hope for from the Veneto. The Soave are fresh and vibrant, the cru Campo Calle having extra weight and complexity. The reds are full
and structured, each step of the ladder from the straight Valpolicella to the Amarone clearly defined in terms of weight and complexity. Above all these are wines that
clearly express their origin.
Olim Bauda epitomises Alliance Wine's commitment to sourcing new and exciting wines, from producers where great quality doesn't cost the earth. The 18th century
'bauda' is situated in the idyllic Italian province of Asti, Piedmont. The concentration of winegrowing in Piedmont is testament to the area's rich history and tradition,
and this is beautifully reflected in the wines from Olim Bauda. The Bertolino family has been involved in wine making in this area for over a century, and the skills and
expertise have been handed down from father to son for generations. Now Gianni, Dino and Diana devote themselves to the vineyards and to the task of creating
exceptional quality, award winning wines. The grapes are grown exclusively in the vineyards on the estate and only the highest quality are selected for these wines.
The final result - elegant, refined Gavi's and vibrant, juicy Barbera's that tantalise every palate.
Although a relatively new producer to the UK, the quality being produced has already been lauded in the 2010 Gambero Rosso where the Nizza single vineyard
Barbera has been awarded Tre Bicchieri - proving that even the very best wines need not cost a fortune.
Supplier Objectives
Latium Morini key goals:
To establish each wine in the range listed by Alliance at the right price point in the UK market, where maximum sales can be achieved
Establish wider distribution, especially in the independent retail market and particularly for the basic Soave and Valpolicella in the range.
To achieve a broader range of customers in the on-trade market.
Present the wines to a wider customer base through visits to Latium Morini.
To introduce Campo Dei Ciligei into the UK market
Olim Bauda
After Aldo’s recent visit a key goal was to ensure the days in the field are as comprehensive as possible, visiting as many customers/targets as time will allow.
