Getting Ready To Do Business
___ Start looking like the “Jewelry Lady”. Begin wearing larger pieces and sets, a minimum of 6
pieces, even if it’s out of your comfort zone! Work with your sponsor for proper show attire. First
impressions at your show are critical and your clothing should be at least one step above what your
guests might wear. Invest in a “show uniform” if necessary.
___ Plan to Attend Trainings and Rallies. You only have to train if you want to succeed! Plan
your shows around the monthly training. This will give you an excellent foundation for your
business. The cost is $5, held at _______________________ on ___________________ .
**Put these on your calendar WITH your sponsor for the entire year.
___ Decide when you will work. Highlight dates (or use “tab”system) on your calendar that you
want to do shows and share the business and work to fill those dates. Be mindful of trainings and
set “office hours” to stay on track. Sit down with your family to discuss this. You should have at
least 2 shows per week for your first month to establish your business and recoup your investment
ASAP. Therefore, put 8 “tabs” throughout the month. Be sure to put at least 2 more tabs than
shows you want to HOLD, due to cancellations and postponements. Put the tabs on the calendar
at least 6 months out. YOU can book shows ANYTIME, it doesn’t have to be in the next month.
___ Set up your office. Just a file box or accordion folder and a small desk/table can serve as
your office. Keep paper, letter & postcard stamps, standard envelopes, manila folders, labels (30 to
a page & 80 to a page) and note cards handy.
___ Open a separate checking account. This keeps your business finances separate from your
personal finances. A debit card with the account is helpful.
___ Set up an account with Propay so you can begin accepting credit cards at your first show.
The Propay link is on Premier’s web site. The cost is about $49.95 initially plus a small percentage
fee per transaction.
___ Decide if you will purchase the Jeweler Software from Hood & House. It is $98 initially,
then $45/year for support.
___ Keep track of business expenses. Separate receipts into envelopes or files by category as
you go. Receipts can then be totaled by category quarterly or annually for tax purposes.
___Keep a mileage log. Every time you get in the car for business, write it down.
___ Order Business Cards and a Rubber Stamp with your name, phone number and email
address for marking catalogs and order forms. Order from www.vistaprint.com for free or Town &
Country (link on Premier’s website).
___After your kit arrives begin reading your Handbook. Inventory your kit and tag your jewelry by
using the labels provided. Put the labels on the back of the heavy plastic earring cards, put the
other labels on the tags and affix to the jewelry.
___ Call your sponsor. Don’t hesitate to call! You can call as often as you need to and ask about
anything and everything! We are going to work together to ensure your business is a success! Do
not hesitate to contact anyone in your up-line….they care about your success too!
