Text/Web:    Required text is Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 3rd ed. by Neville, et al,
             2009. The information presented in lecture will emphasize the most
             important aspects of each topic; however, retention of the material may be
             enhanced by referring to the text. PowerPoint course material will be
             available at: http://www.dent.ohio-state.edu/courses/d645. Recorded
             lectures will also be provided through Carmen.

Exams:       A final examination will be given, consisting of 50 multiple
             choice questions. Make-up exams will be essay format.

Grading:     Letter grades will be assigned based on the score of the final exam.
             Adjustment of the grading scale may be made at the discretion of the
             course director. The grading scale will be as follows:
             A = 90-100%; B = 80-89%; C = 70-79%; D = 60-69%; E =  59%.

Course Description: 1 credit hour, lecture format

Main topics: Developmental disorders, tooth disturbances, periodontal diseases,
             bacterial diseases, fungal diseases, viral diseases, physical/chemical
             injuries, allergies/immunologic diseases, and benign epithelial lesions.

Relevance: These are important conditions with oral and head/neck manifestations that
           the dental clinician should recognize and understand.

Course Goal: To provide introductory information about the above-listed topics in order to
             familiarize the student with their etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features,
             relevant microscopic features, management and prognosis.

Course Objectives: The student will be able to:

1.    identify the clinical features of the listed disorders

2.    identify the pathogenetic mechanisms of the listed lesions

3.    identify the relevant etiologic, immunopathologic, and histopathologic features of
      selected conditions

4.    identify the appropriate therapeutic choices and prognosis for the various lesions
