Fontaine Travel Fellowship Application Guidelines
The purpose of the Fontaine Society Travel Fellowship is to assist Fontaine
Fellows who are presenting and/or attending conferences in their fields of study.
Because fellowships are limited, applicants are encouraged to exhaust other
sources of funding before soliciting the Fontaine Society. In competitive
circumstances, priority will be given to Fellows who will be presenting and who
demonstrate the greatest need.
Please keep the following guidelines in mind:
Applicants must be Fontaine Fellows at the University of Pennsylvania.
Applicants must be full-time students at the University of Pennsylvania.
Fellows on dissertation status are eligible to apply.
Applicants presenting at a conference will receive highest priority for
funding. Applications from students who plan to attend a conference (but
who are not presenting there) will receive lesser priority.
Applicants may receive only one travel fellowship per academic year.
Application must include the notification of acceptance to the
conference if you are presenting.
Application must include an abstract of the paper or presentation.
The Fontaine Society Travel Fellowship must be used toward travel
expenses to and from the conference (air, train, shuttle, bus, and taxi),
lodging, and/or the registration fee.
Generally, the maximum award is three hundred dollars ($300) for
domestic travel and four hundred dollars ($400) for international travel,
though more funding may be available depending on the number of
The Spring 2012 application deadline is March 23, 2012.
Travel fellowship recipients will be notified within three weeks of the application
deadline. Do not request the status of your application until after this time period.
