The Governing Body of Ogmore Vale Primary School seeks to appoint an
enthusiastic, creative and inspirational deputy headteacher, who has
outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

An understanding of team dynamics and the ability to work with the
Headteacher, Team leaders and staff is essential in enabling this large,
successful primary school to continue its learning journey for the benefit of the
children of the Ogmore Valley.

Our new Deputy Head will be someone who:

      has a proven record of outstanding practice and who is willing to share
       and model high standards of teaching and learning.
      demonstrates high expectations in children’s learning and behaviour.

RESPONSIBLE TO:           Headteacher


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:


STRATEGIC DIRECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE SCHOOL:

      Leading by example and provide inspiration and motivation to the
       school community;

      Generating vision, ethos and policies for the school which promote
       high levels of achievement and meet equality objectives;

      Supporting the Head teacher in achieving the priorities and targets
       which the school sets for itself, provide staff with the motivation to
       support its aims;

      Ensuring that the management of the school, including finance and
       administration support the school's policies, its vision and aims;

      Ensuring the effective management of the school in the absence of
       the Head teacher;


TEACHING AND LEARNING:

      Creating an environment which secures effective learning across the
       breadth of the National Curriculum and to promote high standards of
       achievement, behaviour and discipline;

      Developing links with parents, other schools, educational
       establishments and the wider community, including business and
       industry, in order to enhance teaching and learning and pupils’
       personal development;

      Contributing, as appropriate, to the teaching in the school and a full
       time commitment to a designated class.

LEADING AND MANAGING STAFF:

    Developing positive working relationships with and between all staff
     and governors;

    Implementing and sustaining effective strategies for the management
     of all staff;

    Enabling performance management systems to operate effectively and
     to engage with appraisal requirements of the head teacher and relevant
     staff;


EFFECTIVE DEPLOYMENT OF STAFF AND RESOURCES -:

    Working with governors and colleagues to recruit high quality staff;

    Ensuring that all staff and governors understand their respective roles
     and responsibilities;

    Managing and organising relevant groupings of children to ensure
     effective teaching and learning takes place and that children's personal
     development needs are met;

       Participating in any training and development activities in order to
        maintain own professional development or to enhance competence
        within job role.

       Undertaking any duties and responsibilities commensurate with the
        grade of the post and participate in the regular review of the content of
        the job description.

Salary: £42,564 - £46,968 (ISR 9 – 13)

                       Conditions of Service

                          Deputy Headteacher
Working Hours

The teacher shall be available for work for 195 days in any school year. Such
a teacher shall be available to perform such duties at such times and such
places as may be specified by the headteacher for 1265 hours in any school
year, those hours to be allocated reasonably throughout those days in the
school year on which he/she is required to be available for work.

Location

The normal place of work will be Ogmore Vale Primary School, Aber Road,
Ogmore Vale, Bridgend, CF32 7AJ.

Medical Clearance

Any offer of appointment is subject to medical clearance. You will be required
to complete a medical questionnaire, but may also require medical
examination before appointment.

References

Appointment is subject to receipt of a reference from your current employer.

Criminal Records

An enhanced Disclosure Check by the Criminal Records Bureau will be
necessary for the successful applicant, and appointment will not be confirmed
before a satisfactory disclosure is received.

Business Travel

Should you use your own vehicle for official journeys, mileage expenses will
be reimbursed based on the locally agreed rate.
