How to Tie a Sarong With roots in Java and the Malay Archipelago (located in the Islands between Australia and East Asia), the sarong has been commonly used in modern American society as a fashionable way to cover up when at the beach, a water park or a pool party. With such a variety of colors, fabrics and designs to choose from, and a multitude of ways in which they can be tied, sarongs can spice up a plain swimsuit or push an already fashionable swimsuit over the edge. Traditional Step 1: Hold the top corners of the sarong with arms outstretched (one corner in each hand). Step 2: Wrap sarong around lower body and tie at the waist. (Tie in the front or on the side) Summer's Jacket Step 1: Place sarong over shoulder like a shawl. Step 2: Hold sarong together in the middle and lift one arm (should look similar to a butterfly wing). Step 3: Tie a knot using the corners of the sarong that are hanging in front and behind your arm. (This creates a "sleeve" for your arm to go into). Step 4: Repeat step three for the other arm. Goddess Step 1: Hold sarong against your back with arms outstretched, holding the top two corners. Step 2: Tie corners in a knot and tighten on body. Step 3: Twist hanging fabric once (the two pieces that you just tied) then wrap them toward the back of your body and tuck them into the upper portion of the sarong. French Twist Step 1: Hold sarong against your back with arms outstretched, holding the top two corners (like in the goddess wrap). Step 2: Tie corners in a knot and tighten on body (like in the goddess wrap). Step 3: Twist hanging fabric (the two pieces that you just tied) three times tightly. Step 4: Tie the two pieces behind your neck, like a halter. Warrior Princess Step 1: Hold arms outstretched, holding the top two corners of the sarong, with sarong against your back. Step 2: Tilt arms diagonally. Step 3: Place one side of the sarong underneath an outstretched arm and the other side of the sarong over the opposite shoulder. Step 4: Tie the two corners together on the side of your body (tie on the side where the fabric is underneath your arm). Step 5: Have a friend tie the hanging fabric around the arm that is free. Drapery Step 1: Hold sarong in front of your body with arms outs retched, holding the top two corners of the sarong. Step 2: Tie corners behind your neck tight enough for the sarong to drape across the front of your body. Cool Step 1: Hold sarong against your back with arms outstretched, holding the top two corners. Step 2: Bring top two corners behind neck and tie.
