BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2012
Meeting Date: Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Hale Koa Hotel
Attendance: Fifty-four attendees were listed on our RSVP list (see attachment).
Meeting Called to Order: The board meeting was called to order by President Rose Galera at
9:10 a.m., and the general meeting at 10:00 a.m.
Collect/Pledge: Angela Padigos did the Collect and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Washington Place: Cameron Heen from the Governor’s Office gave commendations to some
of our members especially Gary Nushida, Ivy Kwok, and Pauline Galera for their help and
support of the cleanup at Washington Place.
Sponsor: A big MAHALO to the Hale Koa Hotel for hosting of the meeting venue and for the
delicious luncheon. General Manager Richard LeBrun talked about the history of this military
hotel and how it came to be. Executive Housekeeper Nannette Akau also talked about her
career experience through the years of becoming an executive housekeeper.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes of our last meeting and/or prior meetings can be found at our
website http://hawaii.ieha.org. We won’t be printing hard copies of future minutes because
we’re going green and paperless.
Treasurer’s Report: Madeline Chang discussed the November and December financial reports
via Power Point presentation and they were filed for audit (see attachments).
Membership: We currently have a total of 120 members (31 CEH and 89 members). There is a
$99 special offer until January 31, 2012 to join the IEHA Hawaii Chapter. This offer is good for
new and renewal members, so take advantage of this and save!
Education: As of January 1, 2012, all REH and CEH designation holders will have their
designation renewal dues included yearly with their IEHA membership dues, as opposed to
having a separate designation renewal every three years. In addition, REH/CEH renewal dues
will increase to $35 per year, as opposed to $75 every three years. This new structure will
provide more funds to IEHA in order to increase educational opportunities, while also
simplifying the renewal process association-wide by combining your individual membership and
designation renewal dates.
Ways and Means: Angela Padigos will be organizing some fund raising projects for this year.
Website: 1) Vendors have the opportunity to advertise their company on our website for an
annual cost of $150. 2) Do you have any comments on the IEHA $40 pledge from all members
to purchase the Housekeeping Channel Website? Please let us know. 3) Elaine Simon is our
webmaster for the Hawaii Chapter’s website. She has been approved by the Board and
contracted for her services for $600.
Bosses Night: Derrick De Mello did such a good job at our last Bosses Night that he’ll again
organize our next Bosses Night. He’s asking for any volunteers to help with the venue,
decorations, entertainment, etc. Let’s make this another fun and successful event!
Hospitality: One of our members, Susie Coloma, will be retiring. We wish her the best!
Community Services: Gary Nushida said that the next clean-up at Washington Place will be
sometime in February. It will be on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) and about 2 hours, any
volunteers? Gary also mentioned that the next linen drive will probably be in June. He would
like any donation to be boxed or bagged and ready for pick up.
DOE Open Doors Job Fair Invitation: We are invited to participate in the Department of
Education job fair being held April 25, 2012, and will have a booth there.
Worklinks: Brian Benz introduced Rolanse Crisafulli of Oahu Worklinks. This organization
helps businesses recruit and gives on-the-job training opportunities and is also federally funded.

Executive Housekeeper Today: An executive profile of Ivy Kwok will be featured in the
February EHT magazine. Look forward to reading her exciting and interesting article!
Next IEHA Meeting: Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Washington Place.
Adjournment: 11:00 a.m.
