Works under the direction of the Set Design Manager to provide artistic portion of set
7-8 Months before Performance
1 Attend initial meeting with Director to review tasks, responsibilities, and timing
Assistant Director, Producer, and/or Set Design Manager might attend this
Mark up Manual, if you wish, to indicate actual tasks and timing for this play.
4-5 Months before Performance
2 Review script to identify art requirements.
3 Meet with Director to confirm art requirements, including dates and cost expectations.
4 Attend Production Staff meetings as required to review set color/art concepts, status,
5 Establish set color palette
Reflect period, mood, location, etc. from script
Understand and reflect Director's vision
Consider flat or spatter painting (among others) for depth and dimension.
6 Coordinate set color palette with Lighting Manager to ensure colors will work well with
planned lighting effects. Ensure lighting impact on set produces desired effects.
7 Select and present color palette for the set for final approval from Director.
8 Identify any requirements for original scenic painting for walls (flats) of set.
9 Identify any requirements for other decorative art (e.g., paintings, photographs, wall
hangings) required for set.
10 Make control list of all artwork required and note who will provide them. NOTE:
Coordinate with Props Manager.
11 With Costumes Manager, select/purchase materials for drapery, curtains, bedspreads,
etc. -- or procure the finished products if possible.
2-3 Months before Performance
12 Provide set color samples to Make-up Manager and explain which colors will dominate
the set and (with Lighting Director) what lighting effects will be used.
13 Provide all bills/receipts to Treasurer.
14 Produce publicity flyers for:
Bulletin Board at Eagle's Nest Clubhouse - 8-1/2"x11-1/2"
Bulletin Board at Tuscany Falls Clubhouse (reduce to 80% size of flyer at Eagle's
15 Create posters for Ticket Kiosk and theater foyer easels.
16 Create Program Cover, Ticket Design, and/or Logo as requested by Director.
17 Purchase all approved paint.
18 Identify time and manpower requirements for taping and painting the set.
2-8 Weeks before Performance
19 Recruit art team members to tape and paint set.
Ask for volunteers at membership meetings
Use e-mail, phone; ask for suggestions well in advance
Recruit artists as required to create original art
20 Coordinate dates for set painting and taping, considering the numbers of flats, doors,
window frames needed.
Ensure set is available at selected times
Publicize dates to team members early enough to ensure sufficient manpower
will be on hand
Ensure all required materials are on hand
21 Supervise and assist in taping and painting.
At Close of Play
22 Assist producer in ensuring return or storage of all trim/art items.
