Tutoring: Formatted: Font: Italic
 Need to check in with Marta Sanchez on tutoring partnership with universities. Formatted: List Paragraph, Bulleted +
 We need tutoring in reading, math, and subject support in general. Level: 1 + Aligned at: 0" + Indent at:
                                                                                       0.25"
 Tuesdays and Thursdays will be tutoring days, 3:30 to 5:00.
 Volunteers over the age of 18 have to be fingerprinted.
 We should consider high school students. Noemi will inquire about Sidwell
Friends high school students volunteering since they are required to do
   community service.
 Our own kids can also tutor other kids in school. This was done last year.
 There will be somebody in charge of tutoring in both campuses.

Model UN: Formatted: Font: Italic
Claudia began this initiative. We have a teacher who is on board. They met with the
official model UN people. Expect this to start in September. In this program, a
school is assigned a country and the students learn about the country. Other schools
do this. At the end of the year, there is a model UN event where they are members
of their country. They simulate a UN meeting. This is for middle school.

Our role:LSAT Role Formatted: Font: Italic
Sometimes our role is unclear. The main purpose of the LSAT is to advise the
principal on an on-going basis and to help develop the Comprehensive School Plan
(beginning of the year) and the annual school budget (in the winter). In addition,
the LSAT can have a special initiative that it takes on to help further the school’s
mission.

Comprehensive School Plan Developemnt Formatted: Font: Italic
What are we supposed to accomplish?
Last year’s three goals:Last year, the Comprehensive School plan had two main
areas of focus 1) Student Achievement 2) Positive community and culture. We now
have the results of the stakeholder survey. The LSAT focused its work around the
second goal.

1.Positive community and culture. We have the results of the stakeholder survey.
2. Comprehensive Sschool Pplan – this This year’s plan will be completed is now
online. There are two meetings Sept 8 on the CSP for LSAT members. Liz, Katie and
Monica are planning on attending

The CSP has to have three goals. One in reading, one in math We have to submit
something before the meeting. We have 3 goals
Reading, math, and a school- specific goal. For reading and math, we should meet
our AYP goals.
3. Third goal is to be decided by school – Needs to be measureable/concrete

LSAT will no longer Family Engagement, it is its own entity now.

Suggestions for 3rd goal: We should choose a smaller goal that’s measurable and
doable.
   1. Make school greener. Recycling, do a garden, teaching kids on eating organic,
eating vegetarian, special Peta workshops for kids, lowering thermostats.
   2. Suggest just doing Recycling since it’s measurable and doable.
   3. Reducing tardies.
   4. Creating more community service opportunities for kids.
   5. Increase parent campaign participation.
   6. Fund for student scholarships. This should be an effort with the OCC and not
really part of the CPS. LSAT should work with OCC on this.
   7. Inclusivity. Accessibility in the assembly, having more parents attend the
meeting, having a scholarship so more kids can attend special trips, etc.

LSAT members should email their preference or any other idea by the end of next
week.

Since the school has received a Comprehensive Family Engagement grant that has
its own committee, the LSAT will no longer be directly involved with this initiative.
