AUDIENCE
Conference participants are service leaders across Tennessee, including but not limited to:

Non-Profit and Volunteer Management Professionals and Community Volunteers: Non-profits, HandsOn
Network, volunteer centers, socially responsible corporations, philanthropists, workplace volunteer managers,
faith-based service initiatives, youth leaders, and community members.

National Service Programs: Housed in local community organizations, these programs match federal funds from
the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), leveraging local resources to give Americans of
all ages an opportunity to create healthy communities through service. These programs include
AmeriCorps*VISTA, AmeriCorps*State/National, and Senior Corps.

Service-Learning Practitioners:
 Higher Education Service-Learning: The Tennessee Campus Compact (TNCC) is the statewide
coordinator, convener, and catalyst for civic engagement, academic service-learning, and community
service in higher education. This network of service-learning practitioners will join us along with other
higher education teachers and students who are transforming communities with their work.
 K-12 Service-Learning: Educators who use service-learning as a teaching methodology to engage
       students in learning.
    Community-Based Service-Learning Programs: Out-of-school programs using service-learning to
promote civic engagement and youth development.

Government Leaders: We are fortunate to have partners from the federal, state, and local levels:
 CNCS Tennessee State Office: Managing Tennessee’s AmeriCorps*VISTA, and Senior Corps programs
 Volunteer Tennessee: Tennessee’s State Service Commission manages AmeriCorps*State and
encourages volunteerism and community service in Tennessee.
 Cities of Service: Mayor Karl Dean pledged that Nashville would help the country achieve the goals of
the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act by joining New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg to
launch the Cities of Service coalition and developing a comprehensive local action plan to increase civic
      engagement.

WORKSHOP SELECTION CRITERA
The Conference Advisory Council solicits interactive workshops for the participants. Selection criteria include
hands-on activities, opportunities for dialogue, and small group activities. A lecture with question and answer
time at the end is not sufficient. For workshops focusing on service-learning, the Council expects inclusion of
the essential elements of quality service-learning.

Workshops will be selected to ensure that at least one youth presentation is scheduled per workshop time slot.
Workshop sessions are one hour and fifteen minutes.

SELECTION PROCESS FOR SHOWCASE EXHIBITS
The Conference Advisory Council will review and select high-quality volunteerism, service, and service-
learning program models for the showcase exhibits. Showcase exhibits will be given free display space/table in
our exhibit hall.

If your school or organization practices service-learning, volunteerism, or has an innovative and easily
replicated program meeting critical needs in your community, you are encouraged to apply to participate in the

showcase. You will need to prepare a display that illustrates your work to inspire others to begin similar
projects. You are required to staff the booth with at least one person during showcase hours to discuss your
project with conference attendees. Youth participation is strongly encouraged.
